On July 17th, Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption got a call from Gwinnett County Animal Control. They told us we wouldn’t believe it, but they had just picked up three pure bred French Bulldogs who were running loose at a construction site. We weren’t surprised that pure bred dogs had been abandoned, but we were shocked when we saw the horrific condition that the three girls were in. We were dumbfounded when we heard about a fourth Frenchie.
The latest addition, Isabella, was abandoned at the home of a Gwinnett woman and picked up by animal control, who promptly contacted Judy Price, APRA founder and director.
APRA Veterinary Technician, Shannon Goldsmith, says this is the worst case of mange she has ever seen. Isabella is in critical condition and will require Ivermectin to treat the mites, strong antibiotics to treat secondary infections, pain medication and medicated baths and lotions. She will be closely monitored around the clock until her condition starts to improve.

Demodectic mange is caused by mites that live in hair follicles. They can be present in small numbers in healthy dogs and are kept in check by the immune system. Compromised immune systems allow these mites to multiply, resulting in clinical disease.
These dogs’ conditions did not develop overnight; the mange has been allowed to take over their little bodies for quite some time. They could have been abandoned by an owner who felt overwhelmed by their worsening conditions or worse, they could have come from a breeder too concerned with profit to provide proper medical care. Gwinnett County is developing a reputation for an increasing number of puppy mills. Click on this link for WSB TV’s initial coverage of Isabella: http://www.wsbtv.com/news/28653648/detail.html
Regardless of where they came from, these Frenchies are now receiving the care and affection they deserve until they can be placed in loving, responsible forever homes. Applications for adoption are not being accepted at this time. If you want to help, please consider making a donation for their very expensive medical care. APRA relies solely on the public’s generosity to fund its rescue efforts. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

I would like information on adopting the french bulldogs highlighted on wsb. Could I get information on adoption.
Hi Kirsty,
The French Bulldogs are not currently available for adoption, and we are not accepting applications at this time. The frenchies are in a fragile condition, and we will continue to update their status and availability for adoption on their individual pages. Thank you so much for your interest! In the meantime, you could also sign up for our mailing list where we will send out periodic updates on their condition.
I also would like the adoption information for the french bulldogs.

With the distance between you and Atlanta, it might not be feasible for you to work as a foster home for us (we require that dogs come to the shelter every Saturday for adoption once they are available). However, there are rescue groups up in Union, Fannin and Gilmer counties that I know are looking for help!
