Wedding-related fundraising...when you just don’t need another fondue pot.
The summer wedding season is in full swing, there’s no doubt about it. Here at Atlanta Pet Rescue, we’re noticing an interesting trend in wedding-related charitable giving. Some couples already have all the stuff they need to set up a household, and have decided to use their marriage to raise awareness and raise money for a cause that matters to them.
For example, Cecylia and Paul raised over $1,800 for our pets awaiting adoption. They asked their wedding guests to donate instead of giving traditional wedding gifts, and the results were amazing.
Dustin and Melody chose to make a gift to Atlanta Pet Rescue in lieu of purchasing traditional wedding favors for their guests. They felt that making a lasting difference in the life of the homeless pets they were helping save would mean much more to their family and friends than anything else.
If you’re getting married and think maybe you don’t need another gravy boat, please consider Atlanta Pet Rescue in your plans. We can help you make a difference on your big day.
If you know anyone who is getting married, please tell them about us!
Three wedding-related fundraising tips:
- Explain to your families and guests why you would prefer charitable gifts to presents, and why you’ve chosen that particular cause
- Send your charity's web site URL with the invitations and feature it on table cards at the reception
- Provide an off-line alternative or collect checks and donate online yourself for those family members (we all have them) who are internet-allergic

Meili
Meili (May-Lee) is a precious four-month-old purebred Chinese Crested dog. Meili currently weighs about four pounds and we expect that she will remain under 15 pounds as an adult.
Meili was posted as "free to good home" at an outlying veterinary clinic. Lucky for us, we were at the clinic as the sign was being posted. Meili's former owner was relieved to know that APR would work very hard to find her the perfect forever home.
Meili's owner gave her up because she had several other dogs, and one of them was threatening to kill little Meili, which made it impossible for the family to keep this little tot. They had owned her for only two weeks, and were sad to see her go, but knew it was for the best.
For more information about Atlanta Pet Rescue or how to adopt Meili or any of our 80+ dogs or cats, visit our web site. |

Papageno & Tamino as kittens

Papageno & Tamino today
|
|
Papageno and Tamino
Two years ago, on June 27, these two little brothers entered our lives and home, brightening both considerably. They are named after Tamino (the handsome prince) and Papageno (the royal bird catcher) from Mozart's last opera, The Magic Flute.
They are strictly indoor cats, but their names suit them well: Tamino (b&w) is fastidious and very well-behaved, while Papageno (orange) is the rascal, who especially loves to play with his Da Bird feathered toy.
They were the only two to survive the litter of their abandoned pregnant mother, who was rescued from another shelter that did not hold to Atlanta Pet Rescue's no-kill policy. Thank God she was allowed to bring these boys into the world.
Absolutely inseparable, they still eat, sleep, play and groom each other together. Every minute of every day, we are grateful to Judy, Lyndel, Betsey and all the people at Atlanta Pet Rescue for all they do to bring joy into the lives of our animal friends and other people every day.
Best,
Tim & Nancy

Volunteer Spotlight |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Each month we will feature one of our outstanding volunteers or foster parents. Our volunteers and foster homes are so important to our organization, and we just can not thank them enough. Fostering a rescue pet is a demanding job and we are so lucky to have such a fine group of volunteers who are up to the challenge of both fostering, and working at our adoption facility as well as at special events. |

Meet Laura Pate!
If you have ever been to our adoption center on a Saturday, you were probably
greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smiling face. This is Laura, our APR Greeter! And Laura doesn't stop volunteering after a long Saturday of greeting! She has also been a huge part of several successful fundraisers and events.
Most recently, Laura started up our highly popular Atlanta Pet Pals program, in which she coordinates a group of volunteers to visit an assisted-living facility with a group of APR alum and pets available for adoption. The program has been such a success, she already has plans to expand it!
Thank you Laura, for all of your hard work! |
