Tail to the Chief!

Please join us this Monday, March 3, from 4pm until 8pm to support First Dog Barney - who will move from the White House to the dog house this year - and raise awareness for all the dogs in the Atlanta area that are also homeless.

This event is hosted by the producers of "Dr. Dolittle" to celebrate the DVD release of Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief (available Tuesday, March 4th).

On hand to help us celebrate will be special guest star SPARKY the Wonderdog (and his loving, devoted dad Chip)!

See you there:

Cassie

Cassie is a sweet, lovable little Shih Tzu or close mix. She's mostly gray and white, and has a very calm temperament. Cassie weighs about 14 pounds and is three years old. Cassie came to us from a breeder bust in Virginia when a breeder licensed for 500 dogs was ordered to surrender 600 additional dogs being kept on the premises. Most were breeding females like Cassie, and had not seen much human attention in their lives.

Cassie has been living in a foster home since her arrival in Atlanta, and has been well socialized with her humans as well as with her dog companions in that home. She has made a lot of progress from her condition when we first got her. Cassie can now walk on leash and is becoming a first-rate pet. She will need a quiet, patient home to help her complete her studies in how to be a pampered pet and have your every whim satisfied by doting humans.

Foster report: Wow! Cassie has turned into a little love bug. When I come home (even if I have only been gone 15 minutes) she greets me with such delight it makes me smile. She stands on her back legs and dances a little trying to get my attention to pet her. Cassie has found her bark and joins in with my gang racing out the door even if she doesn't know why - she does not have a prey drive like my terriers so she does not get hyper when she sees a squirrel. Cassie is a perfect lady on a leash. She loves to be petted and held (but not on her back). Cassie is incredibly sweet and all in all, a calm dog. She likes bones to chew on and she liked to play with Radar (now adopted). For someone with patience, the payoff in love and affection from Cassie will be overwhelming.

Jasmine (formerly Imogene)

Well, it's almost three years since I adopted my Jasmine from you. Just when I think I couldn't love her more, I find that I do.  She's been a great companion, friend and all around love bug. My life has been so much more joyful and happy since adopting her.

Everyone in the neighborhood knows her by name. Mind you, they may not know mine, (I'm sometimes referred to as Jasmine's Mom)  She also has her doggie friends. I thank you for all the great work you do rescuing these precious fur babies and making them available for adoption. I still look at the web-site on just about a daily basis.

I want to also thank Gigi, who took a chance on a first time dog owner and let me bring my little girl home. I've attached some photos to let you see how she's doing and that she is spoiled rotten. But that's okay, she deserves it.

Salanda

Note to our readers: We want to thank Salanda... she is one of our wonderful success stories who is also now a FABULOUS volunteer!! Thank you for giving Jasmine a perfect forever home - what we dream of for all of our little loves - and for all of your hard work to help us continue our mission!

Fabulous Fosters

Each month we will feature one of our outstanding foster parents. Our foster homes are so important to our organization, and we just can not thank them enough. Fostering a rescue pet is a demanding job and we are so lucky to have such a fine group of volunteers who are up to the challenge.

Mike and Claire Pinkerton

Claire and Mike Pinkerton have, without a doubt, fostered more special needs dogs than any other foster home.

They have always been willing to take dogs that we knew would require long term care. They have seen broken backs, broken  pelvis' and a few broken legs. Even though they have a large fur family of their own, (and it seems to keep growing), they have always had time and made space for one more.

Thank you Claire and Mike for taking the time to love on our "broken babies" and care for them until they were well.
