Words to Live By

In our world of email-mania, you may have already seen this, but we felt that these wise words were worth sharing, just in case... Enjoy!

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

and lastly...

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Paws for Cocktails

Mark your calendars for our 7th annual Paws for Cockails next month! See details at the bottom of the page.

You can help make this event even better this year!

Do you have season tickets to the Hawks, Thrashers, Braves or Falcons? Would you be willing to donate tickets to one of the games for our silent auction? Maybe you don't have season tickets but your company does? Don't forget tickets to concerts, and other special events. Do you have a beach or mountain vacation home that you could donate a week's vacation?

Every dollar raised helps support our pets awaiting adoption. And all auction donations are tax deductible!

Please take a moment to think about how you can help raise more money for our pets in need. Our auction is so fabulous because YOU help make it so!!

Thank you for your support!

If you have an item to donate, please email us at fundraiser@atlantapetrescue.org or call us at 404.643.2332.

Coco

Coco is 5 year old female Poodle. She weighs 8.5 pounds and has been shaved down because she had been neglected for many years while living as a "breeder dog" in an Alabama Puppy Mill.

She's looks and acts like a pathetic little waif - little more than skin and bones - and is very, very shy. Coco has had poor medical attention throughout her life and probably poor quality food, too.

Foster update 9/26/08: She runs. She jumps. She plays. She wags her tail. Could this be the same dog? Although still shy, Coco is transforming into a happy and confident little Poodle. She has just started her leash training but if you have a fenced backyard, she is totally housetrained. She would really like to have a home with another small, gentle dog. Although not exactly a lap dog, she enjoys sitting on the sofa with you and occasionally will snuggle next to you. It will take a little more time for her to learn to trust completely but if you are willing to make the investment, she’s worth it.

Coco is in a foster home and available for adoption on Saturday. For more information about Atlanta Pet Rescue or how to adopt Coco or any of our 80+ dogs or cats, visit our web site.

Jules

We wanted to write and let you know how thankful we are that we adopted Jules from APR a few months ago. We have a four year old terrier mix named Buster who needed a buddy, and we wanted another wagging tail in the family. I consistently checked your site for a compatible pup, and while every single dog was adorable, I fell in love with Jules at first sight.

When we first got her, she was getting over kennel cough. We were told she was about a 3 on the activity level - apparently that's only when she's sick, because this little lady is without a doubt an 11. Jules is full of spunk, but also loves a good cuddle and belly rub. She and Buster became fast friends and love to chase each other around the livingroom, play tug and eat Puppy Paws ice cream together.

Jules has learned sit, paw, beg and go to your bed, and we're working on lay down and roll over. She recently got her haircut and has been prancing around like a super model ever since.

She's also artistic inspiration for her daddy. We love this little girl and already can't imagine life without her. Thank you for taking good care of her until she came into our home!

Aimee, Brody, Buster & Jules H.

  Volunteer Spotlight

Each month we will feature one of our outstanding volunteers or foster parents. Our volunteers and foster homes are so important to our organization, and we just can not thank them enough. Fostering a rescue pet is a demanding job and we are so lucky to have such a fine group of volunteers who are up to the challenge of both fostering, and working at our adoption facility as well as at special events.

Meet Lori!

Lori is a wonderful and deeply involved part of the Atlanta Pet Rescue family. She works very hard every Saturday as an Adoption Counselor, and she is always willing to help with special events and fundraisers.

She is dependable and always willing to do whatever is needed! For Lori, it is ALL about the animals. She is a passionate animal advocate, and also spends her spare time working with animal rights issues. We love her can-do attitude, her always-present and sincere smile and her desire to always do what is in the best interest of the animals.

In her "other" life, Lori is a professor in the Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology Program at Emory University.
