Layla

Layla is a 1-2 year old, 38 pound Wheaten Terrier type dog. Layla was picked up as a stray by a local animal control facility. When we heard that no one had come in to reclaim her, we were happy to help.

Layla is a sweet and shy gal. She was a bit unsure about her change in lifestyle, however she has blossomed into a friendly, happy dog. She loves to sleep on the bed with her foster family, and appears to be housebroken, with the availability of a doggie door.

She's not a pushy, needy type of dog, but one that is happy to be where you are, and will lay beside you when you work at the computer or watch TV. All in all, she seems to be a dream dog so far. Layla is available for adoption Tuesday through Saturday.

For more information about Atlanta Pet Rescue or how to adopt Layla or any of our 80+ dogs or cats, visit our web site.

Dakota

Our family wanted to take a moment to let you know that our new Bearded Collie, Dakota, is settling into our home and is a welcome addition.  We previously adopted a Beardie from N.C. named Sadie over 10 years ago and she’s been a great dog. When we saw Dakota was available we came in the next day to meet her.  Gerald was a great adoption counselor and gave us time to get acquainted with Dakota.

Dakota fits right in and is great with the kids and her new sister Beardie Sadie. Very mellow and relaxed indoors and a lot of fun to play with.  We even found that Dakota is able to catch a Frisbee in midair (as long as the Frisbee is durable, she’s strong). She has been completely housebroken, responds to multiple commands and we’ve even taught her to speak on command.

Thank you for providing a haven for special dogs like Dakota who has found a long term home with our family.

  Volunteer Spotlight

Each month we will feature one of our outstanding volunteers or foster parents. Our volunteers and foster homes are so important to our organization, and we just can not thank them enough. Fostering a rescue pet is a demanding job and we are so lucky to have such a fine group of volunteers who are up to the challenge of both fostering, and working at our adoption facility as well as at special events.

Meet Niki!

Niki is a regular Saturday volunteer - an expert at the contract table. She is also a loyal and devoted foster mom.

Niki is dependable, always smiling, always calm in the midst of chaos, very efficient and thorough. She is so great that we now have her working as our trainer for new volunteers at the contract table.

Niki also helps with important data-entry projects for Atlanta Pet Rescue, such as our volunteer database, as well as helping out with almost all of our special events and off-site fundraisers.

And... she is expecting a baby boy very soon: on Sept. 18th!! WOW!

Best wishes to you Niki!
