Adopt a pet. Save a life. Find love. That’s what Britton Hammett-McCurry and John McCurry did when they took in Ichabod, a terrier mix, who had been brought to Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption (APRA) after he and his littermates were found in a dumpster.

The McCurrys’ beloved dog, Nigel, had died six months earlier so the family “was missing another little heartbeat around the house” and knew that adopting a rescue dog would “bring new love” into their lives, Britton explains. “Nigel could never be replaced, but the minute we saw Ichabod at APRA we fell in love with him.”

So did Zero, the couple’s Chihuahua, who was lonely and depressed after Nigel’s death. “None Read More...

On Friday, September 9, Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption’s chairman of the board, Laura Pate, visited Fox 5 with a very special visitor, Baby. Laura shared how Baby came to APRA and described Baby’s personality. And the best news is that Baby found a forever home the very next day!

APRA’s Cathy Roth, director of development, and Tracy Grimm, adoption counselor and Paws in the Park committee member, spoke with 97.1 The River’s Kori Frederick about what makes APRA a different kind of shelter and how Paws in the Park is a celebration of pet ownership, not to mention our biggest fundraiser ever.

IsabellaOn July 17th, Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption got a call from Gwinnett County Animal Control. They told us we wouldn’t believe it, but they had just picked up three pure bred French Bulldogs who were running loose at a construction site. We weren’t surprised that pure bred dogs had been abandoned, but we were shocked when we saw the horrific condition that the three girls were in. We were dumbfounded when we heard about a fourth Frenchie.

The latest addition, Isabella, was abandoned at the home of a Gwinnett woman and picked up by animal control, who promptly contacted Judy Price, APRA founder and director.
