Just look at me now! Remember the skinny, scared little thing with gashes in her side and mats in her hair? She has just completed Intermediate obedience training. Hello Atlanta Pet Rescue and to our amazing counselor Kris!

Some things are just ‘meant to be’ and that was the case with Anthony. Our 5 year old spotted his pic while we were looking online and announced ‘that’s my dog’. When we arrived on Saturday to meet Anthony, he was already with someone else who was just about to put the pen to paper and take Anthony home.

We patiently waited as Kris brought several other possibilites for us to meet/play with; but our sons were convinced that Anthony was for them.

We were preparing to tell our boys that Anthony was meant to have a happy life with someone else, when Kris whispered to us that the other possible adoptive family had passed on Anthony and asked if we’d like to meet him. After interacting with him, we knew that our 5 year old was right – Anthony was ‘our dog’.

We brought Anthony home and had an ‘all boy’ camp out his first night (my husband, Anthony, and my 2 sons); now Anthony is always with one of us-playing fetch, napping, going for walks, taking a car ride or just following us around (when our boys are not carrying him!). He’s super sweet and super smart!

I wanted to thank you for the honest description of him on your website and the feedback from his foster home; it was spot on! We felt as if we knew Anthony before we ever met him.

A special thank you to Kris who allowed our sons to also sign Anthony’s adoption papers; both of our sons were adopted and it meant so much to them to ‘continue’ the gift of adoption by bringing Anthony home.

Dog Days at the Market

Riverview Landing, the newest development from Atlanta-based real estate investment and management firm Jamestown, announced it will kick off the grand opening of “The Market” and Georgia’s newest dog pasture on Saturday, May 12, with “Dog Days at The Market” Spring festival. The day’s proceeds will benefit Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption.

“Jamestown is committed to creating a place for families and dog owners to gather together to create a sense of community,” stated Matt Bronfman, CEO of Jamestown. “This spring time event will showcase the activities that will be provided once Riverview Landing has been fully developed.”

This fun day will be a mix of over 40 vendors, food trucks, bluegrass music and of course lots of dogs and dog events! Dogs are welcome to roam in Georgia’s newest pasture, the five acre, fenced in area that runs along the Chattahoochee River.

We hope to see you out there and some of the APRA dogs will be joining in the festivities as well!

Girl Scouts donate to APRA!

The Morris Bandon Girl Scout Troop, #3735, a group of fifth graders decided to help the dogs and cats of Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoptoin. They raised money (a total of $509.78) doing lemonade stands, candy sales, extra chores, babysitting, and/or dog walking. This was their community service project for the year, outside of school. They chose the Atlanta Pet Rescue because they knew at least one girl had gotten her dog, Coco, there and we also wanted a no-kill shelter.

Two of the girls specifically, Drew and Avery, were in charge of this meeting/visit and they helped their moms gather information for the troop about the APR (and your move!) and distributed it to everyone. The moms also asked any girls who wanted to to make dog treats and we used a recipe Drew and Avery found at www.allrecipes.com for a sweet potato/peanut butter one that looked good.

The girls were delighted as they met with our dogs and cats. Our favorite quote of the day was when we asked one of the girl’s how she raised the money and the response was, “from my parents wallet.”

A huge thank you to Girl Scout Troop #3735 and to all the girls: Drew, Leah, Callie, Franny, Bay, Megan, Keely Lila, Ansley, Maysie, Colie, Avery, Alex, and Parker.

A shout out also goes to Troop Leader, Mom Becky, Mom Dell and Mom Meg!

Commemorative Bricks

We are excited to announce our plan for a brick courtyard when we move into our new adoption center at 4874 South Atlanta Road in Smyrna. Our goal is to fill it with bricks from our fans and supporters. For just $50, you can purchase a commemorative brick to help beautify our upcoming courtyard.

Help our sick dogs- 5 dog kennels wanted!

As many of you know we are moving very soon (May 1st). Currently within APRA, all sick animals have gone to Judy Price’s house or to our vet tech’s house. For our new location, our plan is to incorporate a rehab center so Judy can have her house back! The official rehab center isn’t planned until a later phase in order to raise more money.

But in the meantime, we hope to put together a temporary space and we need your help. Ideally we are trying to get 5 dog kennels we can use until phase 2 can be completed and we raise more money.

Oliver’s happy ending!

A few months ago we rescued little Oliver from a local animal control and he was one sick little kitten. After LOTS of TLC (and great medical care) from our veterinary technician, Shannon, he has a new lease on life. It was slow going for a while but now he is happy in his new home. His new name is Breesy and he has a very happy mom.
