Instructions For Adopting an Atlanta Pet Rescue
Dog or Cat: |
-
All household members, including current dog(s), are required to attend the adoption interview, and if you currently have pets in the household you must bring along a copy of their most current medical records with proof of vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and proof of spay/neuter.
-
All applicants must be 23 years of age and must complete an adoption application (a link to the online application form can be found at the bottom of this page).
-
For the best selection of pets, please plan to arrive at our adoption center early and bring your patience. This is an important decision and sometimes it takes a while. We do not hold or reserve animals. You must come in person and be interviewed in person in order to adopt.
-
Complete the adoption application and submit it online. We will receive your application, review it and respond to you within 24 to 48 hours. Your application is then printed and available at the shelter for your in-person interview. If we have questions or concerns or need clarification on any of your responses, we will contact you via email. A link to the online application form can be found at the bottom of this page.
-
As part of the adoption process, you will be required to sign a contract promising to take care of your new pet, keep its vaccinations and heartworm preventative current, and return the pet to us if you choose not to keep it.
-
Our adoption fee varies depending on the breed and age of the pet. For most dogs it is $250, however some purebred dogs are $300, and our adoption fee for most cats is $115. If you have any questions about the adoption fee of the pet you are interested in, please email us. The adoption fees help us cover our rescue expenses and provide veterinary care for the animals. The adoption fee includes spaying or neutering, heartworm test and rabies shot if the dog or cat is old enough, and routine vaccinations.
Dogs over age 6 months are tested for heartworms; cats and kittens are tested for feline Leukemia and Aids. All are treated for fleas, ticks and intestinal parasites. Adoptions fees can be paid by cash, Visa or Mastercard. We do not take checks.
