Oso is a 1 year old Chihuahua who weighs 6 pounds. He came to us from another rescue that did not think he was ready for the adoption floor. When he came, Oso was quite timid, but had done great with us as we have worked to help him build his confidence. He's still a bit wary around strangers, but is quick to warm up. He'd be a wonderful guard dog!! His bark is ferocious, but he doesn't have anything to back it up.
Oso gets along well with other dogs and can usually be found cuddled up on top of a fuzzy blanket with another pup. He probably would do best in a home with another canine friend that can be his best friend. Of course, Oso usually curls up after a good play session because he has turned into a very playful boy. He enjoys small plush toys that he can tug on (either with you or other dogs).
Oso is in a foster home and available
for adoption on Saturday.
Foster Report 4/27/10: Cutest Dog award goes to Oso. He thinks he is a bear trapped in a Chihuahua body. Osi (that’s what I call him) comes across as a shy little pup at first – but don’t let that fool you. He is a fun loving cutie. When I first brought him home he sniffed around and immediately started playing chase with my doggy biscuit who is three times his size! He is very playful! He thinks playtime is all the time – so cute. He plays very well with other dogs.
It was a breeze to give him a shower and he was sweet about it. Its like he has trained himself to act tough…but inside…he is just a little baby doggy When he wants to play he starts doing a soft little “yip yip” that makes you want to drop what you are doing and play.
He is food motivated and is pretty smart! He also does well on the leash. I have started house training him by opening the back door and saying “ go bathroom go bathroom” and giving him some cheese when he goes. He is doing great and learns quickly. When I see him sniffing a corner ready to mark his territory I simply do the Victoria Stillwell “nah-ah” in a stern voice and he gets it!
Oso is getting used to being picked up it just takes time – he must have had a very bad experience with this at some point. He is getting used to it. Once you pick him up he feels safe. I wait until he hops up on the couch;.then I can pick him up. He will win you over! Just give him a full day to get to know you and you will be his best friend!
Also..when I lay on the couch or bed he comes and gives me a kiss and lays beside me. He sleeps quietly through the entire night right beside me. Oso yearns to find a family that will never give him up or abandon him ever again. He deserves a loving home full of toys and treats! Due to his tiny size he would prefer a family of adults or teens only.
