Adrian was a pitiful 1 year old, 38 pound Olde English Bulldog when she first arrived at APR. Adrian was purchased from a breeder as a young puppy and later she developed demodex mange. After months of trying to get Adrian well, her family decided that they were no longer able to afford the necessary medication and regular visits to the vet.

Lucky for Adrian, we had space and agreed to help her get the medical care she needed. Thanks to the generous support of the sponsors below, Adrian has had top-notch medical care and her skin has healed, along with her spirits, and she is now ready for adoption.

Adrian is a whole new dog! Her fur has grown back and you would never know she had a previous skin condition.   She may be homely, but Adrian has a stellar personality.

Adrian is in a foster home and

available for adoption on Saturday.

Foster Report: Adrian is all about having a good time. SHE LOVES TO PLAY! She likes to play with other dogs, with people and with the cat. This dog has a lot of energy. She needs to go to an active household. She is house trained but is crated when I am at work. Adrian needs someone who can devote time to her for training so that she can be the best dog. If you are up for a lot of fun, maybe Adrian is the girl for you.

Thank you!

Mya is a one year old Terrier mix. She came from a distant animal control facility with a poor adoption rate. Mya is cute as a button and weighs 37 pounds. We think Mya will be a great family dog.

Mya is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.

A Note from a Friend: What makes a dog trainer’s day??  Working with a smart dog that is totally focused and ready to learn. Meet Mya!

Mya impressed me from the very start. She quickly learned how to “sit”, “down” and “stay” within minutes of learning these new commands. When training with her, Mya’s focus is steady and strong. Once she gets a command, she looks at you as if she is wants to learn more and more.

I believe she is partially potty trained. She keeps her crate clean and uses the outside yard for her “business”. She is so much fun! Mya loves to play with other dogs her size and she also enjoys playing tug of war and ball with the volunteers and staff at the shelter. She is so eager to meet and see new people, places, and other dogs. Mya loves to go for walks and is learning fast not to pull on the leash.

Mya would do very well in a family with or without children. She would also do well as a “single dog” or being with another dog. Mya needs to be in a home without cats. Most importantly, Mya would like to have a family that is ready to commit a lifetime to this wonderfully smart, fun, and loving dog!

Thank you Leesia Teh Photography!

I love my buddy Hank.

Jax is a 3 year old Terrier mix who weighs 25 pounds. This sweet fellow came to us from an outlying animal control facility where he was taken after being abandoned in a foreclosed house. Neighbors heard him barking and alerted the authorities, who got Jax out of the house.

Some nice women took Jax to the veterinarian because he was so skinny and had lots of sores on his body from flea bites. He was treated for his bad skin and the fleas got the boot, too. Eventually, though, the nice women took Jax to animal control. He has suffered some hair loss on his rear due to fleas, but that should go away with time and TLC.

Jax is a friendly guy who needs a loving home that will never let him end up in this situation again. He gets along well with other dogs, but may not do so well with cats, according to the women who took him to animal control. Aside from that, Jax will make a wonderful canine companion for most any home.

Jax is in a foster home and available

for adoption on Saturday.

A Note from a Friend: Jax is such goooood boy! During our recent Sunday stroll through Centennial Olympic Park, Jax was a great APR ambassador winning over children, women and most men alike. He lovingly endured playful pats on his noggin from the tots as his tailed wagged when greeted and complimented by onlookers and passersby. Jax also rode extremely well in my car. After our stroll, Jax resumed his spot in the car then settled into a nice nap. Jax is a gem, worthy of the ultimate gold medal- a home of his own and a family to treasure.

That's the tip of my tail in the

upper left corner of this photo.

Maggie is a sweet 2 year old, 30 pound Terrier mix. This charming gal came to APR from an outlying animal control facility, still wearing an electric fence collar from her former home.  Maggie came to us covered and fleas and has experienced some hair loss on her hind quarters. It should grow back nicely now that the fleas are gone, thanks to the great flea control products available today.

Maggie warmed up quickly to her new canine friends and our staff and volunteers. She has proved to be quite the playful canine, and she loves her toys!

Volunteer Arthur took Maggie for a long walk and reported that she walks very well on leash, and does not pull. Maggie would make a great companion for most any home.

Maggie is in a foster home and

available for adoption on Saturday.

Foster report 11/5/09: Maggie is a great fun loving dog. She loves going on walks and like to carry stuffed toys around in her mouth and, if possible, induce her person or other dogs to play tug of war. She is coming along on her house training and will do part of her business on a walk.

I can't help but think that at some point she was a loved family member. She is comfortable in a home and incredibly good natured. She took interacting with my pack in stride. Maggie loves to be with her person so much that when I get home she is a little wild. We are working on her having to sit before I will pet her when I get home since her current tendency is to jump, jump, jump. Despite this one behavior, one we go on a walk, she is pretty mellow. Maggie does not pull on a leash but could use some additional training because she tends to cross back and forth in front of the walker. She also knows sit and down.

Maggie's coat is growing back in and it is soooo soft and pretty. Maggie most likely would enjoy having a canine companion but probably do okay an an only dog. She is not crated at my home and she is not destructive. Maggie is a bit too interested in my cats and probably should not be in a home with them.
