Murphy is a one-of-a-kind Basset mix. She is somewhere between one and two years of age, weighs 35 pounds and is a happy, gentle dog.

Murphy originally came to us from a North Georgia animal shelter where her chances of finding a caring home were slim. And, because she had Heartworms at the time, she would have faced certain death without a rescue group to save her. Murphy has since been spayed and successfully completed her Heartworm Treatment. She was even adopted! But her adopter had to return her when their schedule changed and they could no longer care for Murphy.

Murphy doesn't know what to think about her situation. She is hoping that someone will come along soon and give her the true forever home that she deserves. Murphy is a fantastic dog who should be in a fantastic home. If you think Murphy may be the one for you, submit your application today!

Murphy is in a foster home and

available for adoption on Saturday.

Foster Update 8/20/10: Murphy has been such a pleasure to foster! We think she is very cute and she just loves the kids. She gets along great with other dogs and would love to have another dog to play with. Murphy loves to go on walks and sniff out the neighborhood and she walks great on the leash. She would also be a great running companion.

Murphy is housebroken, can be left alone and sleeps quietly in the kitchen with our other pups at night. Murphy loves to eat and chew on some beefhide bones to pass the time. Murphy would love to find a home with an active household and another buddy to play with.  She would be an ideal family dog. We cannot say enough good things about this sweet girl!

Willow is a darling four year old Wheaten Terrier mix who weighs 27 pounds. She was surrendered to us by her previous owner because he could no longer care for her.

Willow's vet check revealed that she is in poor health, probably because of poor nutrition in her former home.  Willow needs a few weeks of R&R coupled with nutritious food and a few supplements before she will be available for adoption.

Willow is understandably confused by her change in status. She gets along well with other dogs, but has been mostly keeping to herself. That should change quickly as she adjusts to her new "home" and gets stronger physically.

Willow is getting over a case of the sniffles and is currently unavailable for adoption.

Foster Report 8/31/10: Willow is a phenomenal dog.  She is a gentle, calm, sweet but shy girl who is a bit nervous about meeting new people.  She, however, loves attention once she gets into a home and feels comfortable.  Willow is housebroken, knows “sit” with a hand signal, and goes to her crate (the door remains open) upon hearing “go bed”.  She stays in her crate all night unless she needs to go outside to do her business or to get a drink of water.  At home Willow gets along with all of my dogs and loves to play with her foster brother, Carlson.  She will come into the TV room with the rest of the pack to be petted and give kisses.  Willow loves going on walks and car rides.  If you are looking for a laid back, gentle, sweet, highly trainable dog, Willow is the girl for you.

Java is a two year old Labrador Retriever- Australian Shepherd mix who weighs 33 pounds. She came to us from an outlying animal control facility where her time was up. Java recently had puppies, and as a result she is very skinny. Java will need to gain several pounds to reach a healthy weight again. Her coat is also dry and brittle because of flea infestation, malnutrition and rearing her pups.

Java was hard to resist. She leaned up against the fence at animal control yearning for attention and looking so sad with her beautiful hazel eyes. Java has proven to be an extremely sweet canine. She gets along great with other dogs, but seems to be much more interested in the attention of humans. She will creep her way over and get as close as you allow her to and slowly roll over on her back to get her belly rubbed.

Please come meet Java and see if you are the one to give her another chance at life.

Java is recovering from a touch of kennel cough and is currently unavailable for adoption.

I'm a rich chocolate brown with

a few patches of white on my rear toes.

Honey is a beautiful one and a half year old Golden Retreiver mix who weighs 44 pounds. This sweet girl came to us from a rural animal control facility where her chances of being adopted were slim.  Honey's previous owner lived in a small apartment and kept her in a crate while he was at work during the day and also at night.

Honey is happy to be here at APR where she received a nice bath and lots of TLC. She is a little thin and has a thinning coat, mostly due to poor diet and neglect. With time and good nutrition, her coat will grow to be as beautiful as it should be. Honey is a wonderful girl who should make a fabulous lifetime companion for most any home.

Honey is getting over a case of the sniffles and is currently unavailable for adoption.
