Grady is  a 7 year old, 27 pound Schnauzer/Poodle mix. Grady was surrendered to us by his previous owner because he wasn't compatible with the children in the household.

Grady is a great little fellow with loads of personality. He is housebroken and obedience trained. He loves people and will follow you around everywhere with big adoring eyes and a wagging tail.

Grady is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.

Foster is a 3 year old 55 pound Australian Shepard or close mix. Foster is a bit overweight and should weigh more like 45 pounds, however, we are confident he will slim down in no time.

Foster's journey has been a long one. In the beginning, Foster had a family. However, they came on hard times and their house went into foreclosure. When his family moved out, poor Foster was left in the yard to fend for himself. Luckily, kind neighbors fed him and provided plenty of water.

It was not long after that Foster found himself looking for a new home. A concerned realtor sent 300 emails asking for someone to take him, but no one stepped up to include Foster as a permanent part of their family. One family agreed to take him in temporarily, and then contacted APR.  And so "Foster" joined the APR family and is now looking for a permanent home.

Foster is a very nice dog with a great temperament. He gets along well with other dogs, however, he would prefer a home without cats. Foster promises to be a wonderful canine companion for a committed owner who will keep him healthy and happy.

Update 6/19/08: Today we received vaccination records for Foster that should have verified what we were told about his healthy dog status. What we received instead was a neuter certificate, a rabies certificate and a positive heart worm test! It appears that Foster had not only been left out in the yard, but he had never been given the necessary heart worm prevention to protect him from this deadly disease. Maybe this is the true reason that Foster was left behind. Heart worm treatment is very expensive and families often choose to abandon their pet rather than pay for treatment.  If you can help cover some of the cost of Foster's heart worm treatment, please click on the "sponsor me" link below. You can be sure that APR will get Foster the treatment he needs so that he can live a long happy life.

Update 6/25/08: Foster has completed his heart worm treatment and seems to be feeling well.

Foster is in a foster home and

available for adoption on Saturday.

Foster will have soft medium length hair

when it grows out.

This is after his summer buzz cut.

Wanda is a teenage Catahoula mix pup, we think. She's probably about 10 months old and weighs about 30 pounds. She needs to gain a few pounds because she's a bit  bony but gaining weight and getting healthier every day in our care.

Wanda came to us via a local shelter where she developed Kennel Cough, and as a result, her future wasn't looking good if she stayed there. She's recovered now, and is looking for her forever home.

Note from a friend: you can't tell from the photos very well (look closely at the middle one) but half of Wanda's left eye is blue and the other half is a lovely light amber color! It is very unusual and quite beautiful.

Wanda did well at her photo shoot. She ran around and played with Luna, the Great Dane (large dog page) as well as with Chip (toy dog page). They all had a ball together. Wanda would love to have a big yard to play in and another dog sibling would be ideal. She is super sweet and playful, as a young healthy dog should be.

Wanda also seemed to get along very well with my 18 month old little girl who was enjoying the entertainment provided by she and Luna running amok. She did not show any signs of being scared of, or anxious around an unsteady toddler. Wanda shares and plays well with all size dogs and humans alike. She will be a great companion for some very lucky family.

Wanda is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.

We think Sophie is a probably a Labradoodle, or at least that's our best guess.  She looks a lot like a Poodle, but has a long curled tail, and just look at those big ears!  There's something more than just Poodle genes in this happy girl.

Sophie was turned in at a local animal control facility by her family because they said they didn't have time for her.  We didn't get "before" pictures of Sophie, but you'll have to take our word for the fact that she was a matted mess!  Sophie is 2 years old and weighs about 40 pounds.  She's full grown now, but may gain another 3-5 pounds in order to fill out her washboard-like ribcage.  Sophie is outgoing and very friendly with two- and four-legged creatures.

We suspect that Sophie was left to grow up on her own and was not taught any basic obedience commands.  She is, however, very gentle and hasn't a mean bone in her body.  Sophie is desperate for human attention, and very appreciative of every little thing.  We think she will be a quick study for anything one wants to teach her because she is so eager to please.

She was very tolerant of a long, long grooming process followed by a nasty bath with shampoo and ear cleaning, etc.  It may have been her first bath, for all we know.  Through it all, though, Sophie was compliant and good-natured.

Sophie will need an owner who will take her to obedience classes so she can realize her potentia to be a fabulous pet..

Sophie is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.
