Wilson is a 5.5 year old Smooth Collie mix who was surrendered to Atlanta Pet Rescue. This boy was adopted as a puppy and has spent his whole life with a loving family. Unfortunately, the family has been experiencing health issues of their own. As a result, the difficult decision was made to rehome this boy.

Wilson is in a foster home and available for adoption on Saturday.

Wilson is sponsored by:

Thank you!

Foster Update: Have you noticed that Wilson is available again? Poor guy, he’s not happy but sadly he didn’t leave the cats alone and had to be returned. So he’s back with me and has settled straight into the old routine.

Wilson is an outstanding catch for an active upbeat owner. He’s also handsome, cheerful and friendly. He’s one of the most intelligent dogs I have ever known, at least as smart as a poodle. Wilson’s well-trained, friendly, good on a leash and rides well in the car. He’s excellent at home, he wouldn’t dream of soiling the house or chewing up the sofa.

He’s not barky but definitely let’s you know if someone is at the door, extremely aware. He’s a fanatical squirrel hunter. He’s also a great ball chaser and always brings it back – but we‘re still working on him giving it up to be thrown again! He gets on well with other dogs but not cats! He really does need his exercise and he needs a lot of attention. He’d be an excellent dog to run with on a dark night in a dodgy neighborhood or would excel in agility.

Don’t be fooled by his age, Wilson can get excited as a puppy outdoors but he’s calm at home. He’d be fine with another dog. Wilson is going to bond very hard to his new owner and give back 100%. In a lifetime of owning dogs he’ll be the one you remember the best.

Clipper is a handsome one and a half year old Border Terrier mix who weighs 28 pounds. This sweetheart came to us from a rural animal control facility in Alabama where he was picked up as a stray.

Clipper is still learning how to be a house pet. He is quite unsure of what he is supposed to do on the leash. He is shy, but wants to be held and petted.  But we are sure with time and patience, he will be a confident and outgoing pup. Clipper is sure to make a wonderful canine companion for most any home.

Clipper is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.

Update 2/25/10: In case you were wondering when Clipper would get over his head cold, the answer is "soon". He had a really, really bad head cold or upper respiratory infection. He went to visit Dr. Merritt at Paces Ferry Animal Hospital when he just couldn't take it any more. Clipper is now taking two new antibiotics plus Benadryl and saline nose drops to get him back in control of his nose. Clipper is much, much better now, and should be available soon. Clipper is a kind and gentle soul, and would love to be devoted to you forever.

Update 3/10/10: Clipper is feeling better and is having fun running and playing with his new buddies in the play pen at our adoption center! Clipper is so sweet, loyal, and eager to please. He has obviously not had much attention and affection in his prior life, but he is looking forward to making up for that now. As soon as you meet Clipper, you fall in love. We have!

Mandy is a very sweet five year old Terrier mix who weighs 50 pounds. This girl was surrendered by her former owner when they suddenly found themselves homeless.

It's a bit hard to see in her photo, but Mandy only has one eye. It does not slow her down one bit. She is a rescue survivor of Hurricane Rita, so this girl has quite a story to tell. She has some hair loss on her rear and legs because she is recovering from flea bite dermatitis. With flea medications and good quality food, Mandy should recover nicely in a month or two.

Mandy gets along well with other dogs and loves her human friends too. We are sure this scruffy sweetheart will be an excellent lifetime companion.

Mandy is in a foster home and available for adoption on Saturday.

Thank you!

Foster Report 2/11/10: "Rescue me, take me in your arms, rescue me, I need your tender charms, cuz I'm homeless but I'm cute . .. and housebroken too.  Come on baby and rescue me."  This is Mandy's version of the oldies hit by Fontella Bass.  This girl just wants to be loved and give all her love and devotion in return.  Mandy gets along well with all my pack.

She loves, loves, loves to go on walks and just to be in the room with you.  Initially, she seemed somewhat surprised by the attention she was getting.  She obviously decided it was pretty cool because now she want to be first in line to be petted when I get home.  Although she loves to be petted, she never is pushy about getting attention (well, except when I get home and she is trying to edge everyone else out).  I have given her free reign of my home and she has behaved admirably.

Like all dogs, Mandy will need basic obedience to learn better leash walking skills (she tends to pull a bit) and to learn not to jump on her person.  Mandy also loves children and tends to veer in their direction if she sees them.  She rarely barks but has a high pitched articulation that she uses to communicate. When she needs to do her business she will use this articulation to tell you "I gotta go."

She is nervous in the car and must be restrained or blocked from the front seat because she wants to sit in her person's lap, which is dangerous with any dog, but seriously unwise with a 50 lb one.  Mandy is quite a catch.  She is an easy-going lovable companion.  Come meet her and see if she is the canine Valentine for you.

Gunnar is a two and a half year old Bassett Hound mix that currently weighs 31 pounds. He is slightly underweight and will need to be at least 35 pounds to be at a healthy weight.  Gunnar came to us from an outlying animal control facility.

Gunnar does have Heartworms, which usually indicates to us that he was kept outdoors.  The fact that he had fleas makes it a sure thing.   Heartworm disease is very harmful and life threatening. All dogs are susceptible to this deadly disease unless protected with monthly preventative medication.  Luckily, it is a treatable disease, though costly.  If you can help defray the costs, please click on the 'Sponsor Me' link below.

Although Gunnar has obviously been neglected, he is in great spirits.  He is a very affectionate canine that would love to find a forever home to call his own.

Gunnar is available for adoption by appointment.

Update 2/25/10:Gunnar underwent heartworm treatment at Paces Ferry Animal Hospital on February 23rd and 24th.  All he needs now is a home to call his own.

You can see how thin I am in this picture.

Earnie is a very cute three month old Brittany mix who weighs 16 pounds. He looks as if he could have Australian Shepherd in him, as well. Whatever his mix, he is 100% cute! He should grow to be around 40 pounds as an adult.

Earnie is a happy and outgoing pup. He will need a home who can dedicate the time, socialization, and training needed to help him become a well-rounded and happy adult dog. Earnie will make a fabulous lifetime companion for the right home.

Earnie is feeling under the weather and is currently unavailable for adoption.

Roxanne is a very unusual-looking two year old Terrier mix who weighs 42 pounds. This scruffy girl came to us from a rural animal control facility where she had little chance of being adopted. She was wearing a bit of Georgia clay when we got her, and that makes her white hair a bit dull looking, and the area around her mouth is especially stained, too, as you can see in these photos.   With a few months of clean living and a few baths, that should become white.

Roxanne has two blue eyes, a scruffy coat and a look that is simply indescribable.  At first she was very shy and unsure of herself, but after a bath and a good towel-drying, Roxanne knew we were her friends, and she began to show her sparkle.  She has a long tail and the coloring of a cattle dog, but the wiry coat????? We just don't know what breeds went into the making of this special pooch.

Roxanne is a a wonderfully sweet and outgoing dog and is sure to be a fabulous canine companion for most any home, including a home with kids.

Roxanne is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.

Abbott was adopted 3/6/10!

Bess is a sweet 6 year old Bluetick Coonhound who currently weighs 63 pounds. She is overweight and needs to lose at least 10 pounds. Bess was surrendered to us because her previous owners have a new baby and could no longer care for her.

Bess loves to play with plush toys and go for walks. She does well with other dogs but would much rather be the sole focus of the household. Bess knows basic obedience commands and is not hyper. She promises to be a devoted canine companion forever if you will give her a home and love.

Bess is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.

Charlie Brown is a 3 month old Goldendoodle or close mix who currently weighs 15 pounds. This darling puppy should grow to be at least 30 pounds when he is full grown. Charlie Brown came from an outlying animal control facility.

Charlie Brown is a typical energetic boy that loves other dogs.  He is quite affectionate as well. Charlie Brown would be a great family dog.

Charlie Brown is not yet available for adoption.

Update 3/2/10: Poor Charlie Brown has fallen ill and is now in the care of Collier Animal Hospital. He refused to eat today and became lethargic, triggering our response to get him into the vet hospital immediately, so he can have the best care and best chance for survival.

Most likely, poor little Charlie was not vaccinated for the killer diseases when he was younger, and his stay at animal control probably exposed him to things he couldn't fight off without the help of immunity from a vaccination. We'll post updates as soon as information is available.

Update 3/4/10:  Charlie Brown is doing very well and is scheduled for release from the hospital on 3/5/10.  Hooray for Charlie B!!

Hallie is a beautiful 5 year old, 27 pound Collie/Schnauzer mix that was surrendered to us by her previous owner because they were no longer able to care for her.

Hallie is a sweet girl with an amazing temperament. She is reliably housebroken. Her former owners report that she can be left in the house all day without having any accidents or being destructive. She loves meeting new people and going on long walks. She knows basic commands and sits and waves to you when you walk in the door from being gone. This sweet girl would be happiest in a home without small children or other dogs.

Hallie is available for adoption

Tuesday through Saturday.
