Chico is a four year old, 12 pound Pomeranian. He will need to go on a doggie diet and shed a few pounds. Despite being a butterball, he is quite a great fellow. He came to us from an owner who couldn't take care of him.
Poor Chico has not been given heartworm prevention and is now Heartworm Positive as a result. He has gone through the treatment needed to get him on the road to recovery. If you can help defray the cost of Chico's Heartworm Treatment, please click on the "Sponsor Me" link below. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
Chico is a happy boy who gets along well with the other dogs and enjoys playing with toys. He is a fun little guy.
Currently Chico is recovering from his heartworm treatment, and is in the loving hands of a wonderful foster mom who is taking exceptionally good care of this tiny pooch.
Chico is in a foster home and available for adoption on Saturday.
Foster Report 6/4/10: In case you might have been wondering where he is, Chico has been recovering all this time. Not only are heartworms eventually fatal, the treatment for heartworms can be harsh and dangerous. He was badly neglected and also never received the preventatives that are necessary for all pets. This little guy has had to struggle to live and yet wants to be with his person no matter what. I call him "Little Bear" - he's a feisty, spunky, adorable cuddlebug. Little Bear is crate-trained, housebroken, does well in the car, will walk nicely on leash, loves his bone and to attack big stuffed toys. He only barks at dinner time!
Sadly, I also believe that Little Bear has been teased and tormented by children, possibly adults as well. He needs a forever home without children and an experienced dog owner who can practice "tough love". By that I mean an experienced family that can carefully monitor his food and not give in to that ADORABLE face that implores you for treats. Little Bear will be a stunning Pomeranian when his coat grows out, but right now he's a fuzzy butterball that needs to lose two or three pounds. He is crazy about food! Now that he has progressed through the recovery period, we'll be able to take walks to work off those pounds and he will love to be on the go! He also needs the "tough love" to train him in changing his behavior with people, and patience to give him plenty of time for his new family to earn his trust and devotion.
Little Bear loves to be cuddled and held. Tummy rubs and a little massage go a long way! He would be happy to be by my side all day and just be adored --- which I do! Little Bear is a love! ~Claire
Foster Update 7/9/10: Little Bear just gets better every week! He's enjoying the company of his foster siblings and has even started to play with his foster sister Gigi. I think he will do best in a home with another dog his size or larger. He's been completely trustworthy and has free run of the house. He seems to be happier all the time, running in the yard just for the joy of it, and he's even lost a pound (yeah)! ~Claire
Foster Update 8/25/10: Well, I'll have to admit that we haven't done very well on the weight loss plan. It's just been so beastly hot and humid that I don't have the inclination to get out and walk no matter what time of day. But Little Bear is doing so well. He's been such a love and a little clown, too. He truly is a terrific lap dog and thrives on the attention from his people. He loves to be cuddled and held, loves to be on the go; especially walks and rides in the car. He would really do exceptionally well if he could be in a forever home with another female dog who likes to play. If you're looking for a wonderful, constant companion, Little Bear is a joy.

Thanks to Barbara, master groomer at Barking Hound Village, for helping me get rid of my choppy, matted coat. I feel a lot better now!

Maude is a darling one and a half year old Toy Rat Terrier or close mix who weighs 10 pounds. She was surrendered to us by her previous owner because they didn't have the time for such an active dog like Maude.
Maude is a sweet gal. She gets along well with other dogs and would be fine in a home with cats. She loves to play and go for long walks. She also loves to be held, snuggled and loves tummy rubs. Maude is wildly affectionate with her people though a bit timid around strangers at first. Oh, and she's housebroken, too. Please submit your application today and see if Maude can be the center of your universe.
Maude is in a foster home and available
for adoption on Saturday.
Foster Update 7/7/10: Maude is a fantastic little girl! She is high energy, but it is by no means bothersome. She does very well on her walks, is getting better with her house training and is really just quite content with being around us. She isn't demanding for attention, and is overall just happy to see me when I get home. She's a cute little girl, with a big fat body and big old ears. She will make a great pet for someone who just loves to come home and be greeted by a great little dog!
Foster Update 7/21/10: Maude has made leaps and bounds since I first brought her home from APR. She is walking wonderfully on her leash, is learning how to go outside to use the bathroom and is very food oriented for training. She is easily disciplined (with stern NOs) and is eager to please. She is constantly watching me and loves to have my approval and praise. She knows how to sit, sit pretty and is working on lie down. She also will come anytime I call her, no matter where she is.
Maude is a high energy dog and would do best with a playmate. She runs around with my Yorkie and they play tug-o-war together. It takes but 20 minutes and they're both pooped and will nap for hours at my feet. Maude loves squeaky toys and will spend hours chewing on rawhides.
Maude is a one-of-a-kind dog. She has a wonderful temperament, but is very much still a puppy and needs an owner who has the patience and willingness to work with her to make her an even better dog than she already is!
Foster Update 8/4/10: Maude is doing wonderfully! She has been with me for almost five weeks now and has become a member of the family! She is 100% housebroken (yeah!), sleeps through the night and would probably be happy staying there all day too.
She knows all the basic commands and loves to play with my dogs. She had a play session with a Pom/Chi today and absolutely LOVED herself. She has fantastic manners and is good with everyone (kids, adults, other dogs) that she comes in contact with. Maude is a huge snuggler as well! She loves to burrow herself underneath the blankets in bed or lay on my lap wrapped up in a nice fuzzy blanket.
Right now as I write this report, she is napping at my feet! The only thing Maude is missing is the instant "cute" factor. She is not the breed that many people initially are attracted to, but when she looks at you with those big brown eyes and wiggles from head to toe, it will be instant love!! Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Maude will be very happy!
Foster Update 8/20/10: Not a whole lot has changed with Maude this last week. She's still doing amazing so I decided to compile a list of all the original, exceptionally cute things that she does or has. So here it goes:
Maude is loyal. I have never had a dog who makes more eye contact with me and who is constantly checking on me. I can't even leave the room without her coming to look for me.
Maude is the ultimate stretcher. I have never seen a dog who will cross an entire room all while stretching her body. And not simply her back paws or her front paws, but rather she will stop and stretch every inch of her body possible and army crawl to get where she's going.
Maude can be your own personal heater. At night she loves to sleep underneath the covers and sheets, head on the pillow with her body right up against mine. She's the ultimate cuddler and during the day loves to be in my lap or at my feet.
And if you love a dog that has a one-of-a-kind appearance, turns hot pink when she gets excited and sounds like a motorboat as she plays tug-o-war, Maude is your girl! Come out and meet this wonderful little dog.

Smokey is a three and a half year old Dachshund mix who weighs 9 pounds. He is in search of a new home because he has a bit of separation anxiety. Smokey originally came to us from an outlying animal control facility where his previous owners surrendered him because they had too many dogs to care for.
It takes Smokey some time to get comfortable with new environments and people, but once he warms up he is fine. He loves to play, but a he also loves to relax in a nice warm lap. Smokey will need a home where he can get the attention he needs to be a happy canine.
Smokey is available for adoption
Tuesday through Saturday.
Foster Report 7/8/10: Smokey is a joy to have around! I haven't seen or heard one bit of separation anxiety at all!!!! The only noise I've heard him make are the excited squeals he makes as he hops through the house when I get home and let him out. In the mornings when I let him out of his crate, he goes running and hopping through the house and then right back for some loving. He LOVES to be with his person more than anything!!!
He won't get under foot but will instead await patiently for you to return so he can be close to you. I had company over this past weekend and he really shined! It was like he was the star of the show! It was non-stop kisses and snuggling in their laps while he gazed at them with his doe-like eyes. He enjoys pressing his head against you while you love on him. Its about the most adorable thing you have ever seen!
Foster Update 8/20/10: Smokey is a darling little guy – playful and has never met a stranger. He gets along wonderfully with our Chihuahua – they play all day and sleep the whole night through. This little guy is super smart! Smokey loves to snuggle and sleeps under the covers with us - he won’t have it any other way. Smokey is the kissiest dog we have ever fostered! If you love doggy kisses, than this guy is for you. If you don’t like a million kisses on the lips, then move along! Smokey can howl like a wolf – it’s the cutest thing ever as long as you don’t live in an apartment or condo as it is a pretty loud howl. He howls and barks when we leave for work, so he wouldn’t do well in a multifamily dwelling due to this. His belly is soft like velvet and he loves belly rubs. Did I mention kisses? Oh yes, kisses! Smokey is quite the door darter. We have to make sure we block the door whenever opening the front door. Again, he is VERY smart and can easily be trained. He gets lonely when left all by himself and prefers to have a doggy or human companion to play with rather than be left alone. Smokey would also do just fine with kids as he is very gentle. Did I mention the kisses already? Oh yes.

Minnie Mouse is a six month old Rat Terrier mix who weighs 12 pounds. She probably will reach 14-15 pounds as an adult. Minnie Mouse came to us from an outlying animal control facility where her previous owners surrendered her. A caring citizen adopted her from the high-kill animal control so she wouldn't be euthanized. We were contacted about her and agreed to take this special pup in.
Minnie Mouse had a touch Demodex Mange, a non-contagious and easily treated form of mange. If you look at her toes, you'll see they were a bit pink. This is because of the hair loss caused by mange. If we didn't tell you, you'd probably never know she had it. If you can help defray the costs of her medical expenses, please click on the "Sponsor Me" link below. Minnie Mouse will be forever grateful.
Minnie Mouse is an outgoing and playful gal. She gets along extremely well with other dogs. She has been romping around with all her new canine friends from the moment she came through the door. Please submit your application today and see if this sweet girl can be the lifetime companion you have been searching for.
A note from Minnie: I got to go home with a APR volunteer for a night to see what life is like outside of the shelter. It took me a little while to feel comfortable in my new surroundings - the world can be a scary place for a 12 pound orphan! However, as soon as I feel safe I am a happy girl!
I'm intrigued by human activity, especially the thing called the television - I loved watching it! I am also told that my name is very appropriate for me because I was "quiet as a mouse" during my entire visit. I hope that I go to my forever home soon!
Minnie Mouse is in a foster home and available for adoption on Saturday.
Foster Report 9/1/10: Minnie is such a wonderful little girl. She gets along with all the other dogs in my apartment complex, and is very submissive. She is a gentle soul, and everyone who gets the chance to spend time with her walks away in love. Every night she'll look at me with those sweet eyes and wait for me to tap the bed before jumping up. Though she is a little bit of a bed hog, Minnie is the best cuddler and you'll find yourself making room for her. It is almost impossible to believe that she's still a puppy, because she is so quiet and well mannered. On the flip side, when she's feeling playful, she is such a delight. Whoever takes this little lady home will have limitless love and a loyal companion for life.

Misty is a sweet three year old Chihuahua who weighs 8 and a half pounds. This darling girl came to us from a kind citizen who found her as a stray. After many unsuccessful efforts to find Misty's owners, she was brought to us.
Misty is another of our rescued pets with a mysterious scar running down her back. We don't know if this was the result of a chemical burn from a flea prevention product or the result of intentional abuse. It doesn't slow her down or bother her in the least, whatever its cause.
Misty is a very affectionate canine that does fine with other dogs but truly enjoys the company of her person. She is especially fond of laps. That is definitely one of her favorite activities. Misty would love to have a forever home and lap that she can keep warm.
Misty is available for adoption
Tuesday through Saturday.
Foster Report 7/31/10: Misty is a sweet girl. She is one of the most loving foster dogs I have had the pleasure of caring for. Misty always follows me with her tail wagging wherever I go. She wants to be by my side as much as she can and even when I'm not in the mood for kisses, she will try to sneak a kiss in here and there.
Misty gets along well with my dogs and cats, but definitely wants to be the center of my world. She would be happy as an only dog. Misty is a dear. Her only flaw, if you can call it one, is that she is still a bit apprehensive when I go to pick her up when it is not on her terms. Once she realizes that I just want to take her out to potty or snuggle with her she is just fine. Misty will make a wonderful lifetime companion for someone that will give her tons of affection.

Blondie is a precious two year old Japanese Chin who was surrendered to an outlying animal control facility by her former owner. This is a common scenario during these tough economic times.
Blondie is a sweet little gal who weighs 8.5 pounds. She has done well with the other dogs here at APR. Blondie arrived with some bare spots on her back and near her tail--probably from her chewing on her skin because of flea bites. We've treated her for fleas, and her skin is slowly improving with the help of oral antibiotics.
She also takes anti-seizure medication. We have taken her to Dr. Ewing at Collier Animal Hospital for blood work to make sure the medication levels are accurate. She has not suffered from any seizures since she arrived at APR.
All in all, Blondie is a sweetheart of a dog who will make a wonderful lifetime companion. She loves to be held, is housebroken and is good with older children.
Blondie is available for adoption by appointment and on Saturday.
Foster Report 7/30/10: Blondie is the sweetest little angel! She has not barked one time since I brought her home. She does well with pee pee pads if kept in the bathroom/baby gated in the kitchen. She is still learning about going potty while on a leash. To my surprise she has a very spunky side to her! When we come back from our walks she goes running through the house throwing her "arms" up in the air. Its hilarious! She has no interest in being on the couch, instead she enjoys being snuggled up in a ball at your feet. Blondie has been such a joy to have around!
Foster Update 8/4/10: Blondie is an amazing dog! I had to bring her to work yesterday and she sat in her crate all day and didn't make one peep! Everybody that saw her went gaga over her. If you are looking for a laid back dog that has a little spunk, this is your girl. It's quite hilarious to watch her entertain herself because she does it so well and with the cutest little squeal! She nudges the ball with her nose and then will run and pounce on it.
She enjoys playing with my pup, but I think she would be just fine as an only dog. I have decided that she is a living, breathing Gizmo and because of that she's so ugly she's cute!!! Blondie has been an absolute joy to foster. She will make an awesome addition to a family with older children. Fill out an app today so you can take this angel home!!!!

Frank is a three year old Shih Tzu who weighs 14 pounds. This poor boy was picked up by a distant animal control as a stray. He had a rubber band tied around his tail which caused gangrene to set in. As you can see in the photo, he has a large band of raw flesh where his skin has died. We think his tail can be saved because he still has feeling at the end of his tail. This must have been a horrific thing for poor Frank to endure for the weeks leading up to his time at animal control.
Frank is overwhelmed by all he has been through. Once he gets groomed and settled in, he should start feeling better. Frank is a sweet boy that needs a home where he will be loved and cherished forever.
Frank is not yet available for adoption.

Update 8/11/10: Frank's tail is still in rough shape, but Dr. Whittle at Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic thinks there's a good chance Frank will be able to keep his tail. Poor Frank is in a lot of pain. He received an injection of a long-lasting antibiotic today, which means his foster mom won't have to fight with him to take the nasty-tasting antibiotic pill twice daily. Frank is wearing a special collar to prevent him from licking his tail. He doesn't much like it, but his tail really needs to be protected and allowed to heal without disturbance.
Foster Update 8/23/10: The bad news is that Frank's tail was worse than we first thought - it was infected all the way to the tip. It's taken over two and a half weeks but today, I've seen improvement and now believe it's going to heal. Today, the swelling has started to diminish on the distal portion of the tail and is changing from a scary ashen gray to a more normal light pink. YEAH! I was worried about this wonderful little guy - he's such a love. Stay tuned... |

Katie is a two year old Terrier mix who weighs 10 pounds. She is slightly underweight and should gain a couple of pounds. This sweet canine came to us from an outlying animal control facility that picked her up as a stray.
Katie gets along well with other dogs, but has not shown her playful side yet. She appears to be much more interested in the company of her person. Katie is sure to make a lovely liftetime companion for most any home.
Katie is off to visit her cousin out of state and is not currently available for adoption.
Foster Update:
Katie took the weekend off from the shelter for some fun at my place and really came out of her shell. Her favorite past time is tug-o-war with toys. She loves to show off how strong she is, whether it be to her person or a dog six times her size.
Katie got along with my two dogs and seems to have alpha dog tendencies, showing no fear when trying to intimidate our 70 pound male Lab. The sight of a big dog bowing down to a 10 pound little girl was great entertainment.
Katie is super sweet and loves belly rubs or just napping by her person. I am also happy to report that Katie did not have a single accident all weekend and slept quietly in her crate at night. This sweet girl is not destructive and could probably be given free reign at her forever home without incident.
One thing I noticed about Katie is that she was a little "mouthy" with me (although she never displayed this towards my husband). I think Katie would do fine in a home with children as long as they are able to understand that she is not biting them when she uses her mouth and are patient in working with her to get rid of this bad habit.
A note from our trainers on 8/28/10: Atlanta Pet Rescue trainers are delighted to name Katie as this week's Star Student. Katie has demonstrated her intelligence and desire to please by quickly mastering the following skills: watch, sit, touch and spin. Congrats Katie!

Parker is a darling two and a half year old Terrier mix who weighs 11 pounds. This sweet boy came to APR after his former owner was not able to properly care for him.
Parker is a happy little guy who loves everyone he meets. He is a playful guy who does well with other dogs. Parker promises to be a wonderful lifetime companion.
Parker is in a foster home and available for adoption on Saturday.
Foster Report 8/13/10: Parker is a bundle of joy! He has been the perfect dog, only having one accident in the house, never barking unless necessary, and a great playmate for my Lab/Border Collie mix. Parker is an amazing little character. He does this cute little spin when he gets really excited. He thoroughly enjoys playing fetch and will play until your arm gets sore.
He's not the least bit aggressive, but will stick up for himself if need be. He would be a great addition to any family as he is eager to please his person and is just an all around sweetheart. He loves to watch Dogs 101 with me, cocking his head back and forth trying to understand how those dogs got into the TV. He is such a snuggle bug at night! He never moves unless disturbed. I have had so much fun fostering this awesome little dude. I can't wait to see him with his forever family!!!
Foster Report 8/25/10: Parker is by far my absolute favorite foster! He's nothing less than amazing. When I come home I'm greeted with the biggest smile and cute tiny little squeals. He LOVES to play with my pup, so I feel as though he needs to go to a home with another dog and would do best with a fenced-in yard. He loves to run and will play fetch until you poop yourself out. Sometimes, he does get a little excited and pees, but I have found that if I don't use a super excited, high-pitched tone he won't do it. I never met a dog with so much personality!!! He plays and plays and plays with my dog, Cartier, and then snuggles up beside me when he is done. We are working on the little bit of lap aggression he has, but you would be amazed at his progress. No growling all weekend and week!! This little guy will make a great addition to an active family and will forever love you with all his little heart! TJ is a very cute two year old Terrier mix who weighs 14 pounds. This sweetheart came to us from an outlying animal control facility where the staff thought he was too shy to put out for adoption. In other words, his only way out on all four feet was if a rescue would take him. We heard about sweet TJ and agreed to make him an APR pooch and give him a chance to live a life as a pet and be well taken care of.
Poor TJ has had some hard knocks in his life. First of all, he has several buckshot pellets under his skin. Worse, though, is that he was not given monthly heartworm prevention, and is Heartworm Positive as a result. We will make sure he receives treatment to get him on the road to recovery. TJ is warming up by the hour now that he is in a safe and loving environment.. Submit your application today if you think little TJ may be the one for you.

Suzy is a darling three year old Maltese mix who weighs 10 pounds. This little girl came to us from an outlying animal control facility where she, too, was deemed unadoptable. In her case, it was because she has Heartworms. She had not had much care, in our opinion, because her coat was badly matted. Suzy, like TJ above, had buckshot pellets removed when she was spayed.
We'll get Suzy into treatment as soon as possible, and her mats are now history. If you can help with the costs of her heartworm treatment, please click on the "Sponsor Me" link below.

Taffy is a precious two year old Pomeranian who weighs 10 pounds. This sweetheart came to us from an outlying animal control facility where she was deemed unadoptable because she was so shy. Taffy has blossomed into an outgoing friendly pooch now that she is in an environment where she feels safe.
Taffy is quite a pretty girl with a big fluffy tail and thick fur. She walks proudly with her tail held high and a bounce in her step. When the other dogs chase after the tennis ball, Taffy tries to join in. Occasionally she wins the race and comes dashing back with the ball in her mouth, sooo proud of her accomplishment. Taffy is desperately seeking her forever home. Could you be the one to fulfill her wish?

Pablo is a very cute one year old Chihuahua who weighs 5 pounds. This cutie came to us from a rural animal control facility along with his buddies Sweety and Sally (shown below). If you look at his toes, you'll see some black stuff around the pads of his feet, and a tiny black spot above his right eye. That's tar, and Pablo came with all four feet coated in it, and a few patches on his body as well which was both very difficult to remove and traumatizing to him. Any other ideas on how to get the rest off poor Pablo would be greatly appreciated.
Pablo is glad to be out of his cell at animal control and is ready to find his forever home. Due to his tiny size, Pablo would do best in a home without children. Pablo promises to be a wonderful lifetime companion.

Paloma is a precious ten month old Pomeranian who weighs 8 pounds. This little girl came to us from a rural animal control facility where she was turned in by her former owners because she was sick with Kennel Cough. The hair on her body has been cut off, either to make her cooler or because she had some mats. She is cuter and looks smaller in person than she does in this photo.
Paloma is a sweetheart who is desperately looking to find her forever home. She is another tiny dog that is shy at first, but quickly warms up. She's never nippy or mean, just shy. Due to her shyness and tiny size, she would do best in a home without small children.
Paloma is not yet available for adoption.

Sonny is a darling and very sweet one year old Chihuahua Yorkie cross who weighs only four pounds. Sonny came to us from an outlying animal control facility emaciated and with bronchitis. He had also suffered a badly broken leg that was never treated. His femur has a complete break with the two pieces lying side-by-side and they have calcified in place like this. He gets around hunched over and with a decided limp but never a complaint, not once.
Sonny is in foster care to first treat his bronchitis with antibiotics and rest, and second to help him gain weight with four small nutritious meals a day. Once he is well and up to a healthy weight, he will be re-evaluated by Dr. Whittle at Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic to determine if surgery is the best option for his leg.
Please check back for more updates on Sonny's condition. If you can help defray to cost of Sonny's medical treatment, please click on the "Sponsor Me" link below. Any donations a greatly appreciated.
Sonny is not yet available for adoption.

Mitzy is a lovely five year old Miniature Schnauzer who weighs 13 and a half pounds. She is a bit overweight and should lose a couple pounds. Mitzy was surrendered to us by her previous owners because they lost their job and could no longer afford to care for her.
Mitzy is a sweet girl. She has been taking her time adjusting to her new environment here. Mitzy had been with her previous owners since she was 6 weeks old, and did not have much socialization with other people, so this is quite a change for her. She is reportedly housebroken and crate trained. Mitzy loves to go for walks and rides in the car. It takes her time to warm up to new people, but once she is comfortable she is a dear. Please submit your application today and see if you can provide Mitzy with a forever home to call her own.
Mitzy is in a foster home and is available for adoption on Saturdays.
Foster Update 7/29/10: Mitzy has a lot of great qualities and is all her previous owner reported her to be. She appears to be completely housetrained. She gives no signals, but merely waits for you to let her out. She is also crate trained, although we have found no need to crate her as she is not at all destructive. She will use the crate, on occasion, to seek respite from the chaos of our pack of four. She rides well in the car, and walks well on leash. She really likes her walks.
Mitzy is very smart and quickly adjusted to our routines. She is so food oriented, and so eager to please that training is very easy. Our dogs and their behaviors seemed to baffle her at first. We believe that she had not had much experience being around other dogs. She has gotten past that, and closely follows the pack. She does not actively engage in their play, but stands as close as she dares, and likes lying on the deck with them. She would do fine in a home with or without other dogs. Because Mitzy likes to “talk” to us, and does bark when she sees a passerby, I do not think an apartment would be an appropriate home for her. Her talking bark is so expressive…usually it’s something like, “what’s taking so long to fix my meal.” However, the level of her of barking is hard to gauge because all four of mine are barkers, but…she is a Schnauzer. Mitzy is a sweet, loving and happy little dog. She is totally focused on her humans. Her little nub of a tail just wags as she stares at you….another Schnauzer trait. Mitzy will be her next owner’s very best friend and close companion.

Ariel is a six month old female Poodle with a natural tail. She is a very, very dark brown color with a little white on the toes of her rear paws. Little Ariel weighs about 9 pounds and will probably top out at 10-12 pounds when she's full grown.
Ariel came to us from a local animal control facility where her owner turned her in because the kids lost interest in her. Little Ariel is understandably confused by the loss of her former home, but she is now wishing for a new one to come along quickly. She's gentle, sweet and very cute.
Ariel is available for adoption
Tuesday through Saturday.

Jackie is a tiny 8.5 pound Shih Tzu who came to us from an outlying shelter. She was picked up at an abandoned house. The neighbors said Jackie's owners moved away two weeks earlier and left her to fend for herself. From the looks of her, they left her to fend for herself long before that.
When she first arrived at APR, Jackie was almost unrecognizable as a living creature. If she didn't move, you'd think she was a pile of rags and she smelled even worse.
However, now that she's been clipped and bathed, she looks like a darling little dog that deserves a loving home at last.
Jackie is not yet available for adoption.

Coco is a very sweet four year old chocolate Poodle who weighs 10 pounds. This sweetheart found herself homeless at an outlying animal control facility after living a neglected life as a breeder dog.
Coco was in poor condition... she had horrible skin infections, which left her with no fur, had several bladder stones, and heartworms on top of that. A big thanks to Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society for getting Coco back on her feet again and bringing her to APR to find her forever home. Coco is now heartworm negative, rid of those bladder stones, and has a beautiful coat.
Coco has done wonderfully with the other dogs here at APR. She is a bit shy when meeting new people, but will warm up once she knows you are her friend. Coco promises to make a wonderful lifetime companion for one lucky adopter.

Tango is a nine week old 3 pound Pomeranian-Shih Tzu baby. He's half fur and half body, so he looks much bigger than his weight indicates. We estimate that he will reach 12-15 pounds when he's full grown.
He came to us from a north Georgia animal control facility where he had no chance for survival. Tango and his sister Tutu were whisked out of that place and brought to Atlanta.
If you think you'd like a little furbaby in your family, please submit an application and come meet him in person.
Tango is available for adoption
Tuesday through Saturday starting September 7th.
