Itsy is a 12 pound "Beaglette" or Beagle-Chihuahua cross. She is 2 years old and as you can see from the photos, has been a mother recently. She has a tiny stub tail and a brown spot on her back, just above her tail.
Itsy is shy with strangers, but outrageously friendly and playful with people she knows. She loves to play with soft toys and other dogs. Her foster mom thinks Itsy would be OK with older children, but due to her initial shyness, would not do well with toddlers.
Itsy formerly belonged to someone who had too many dogs, and let them breed too often... As a result, Itsy wasn't handled as much as she could have been in a home where she was the only pet. She is initially shy, but after about a day, she is friendly, cuddly and playful. She has also learned to scratch at the door when it's time to go outside, and has been trained to use pee pads, too.
This sweet girl needs a quiet home with someone who wants a dog that will worship them every minute, and love them without reservation.

Bridget is a 2 year old, 10 pound Cairn/Chihuahua mix that was rescued from an outlying animal control facility were she had little chance of finding a forever home.
Poor Bridget has not received heartworm prevention, and is Heartworm Positive as a result. We will get this girl the treatment she needs so that she can live out a happy, normal life.
Bridget is a sweet girl but is a bit shy at first. She gets along well with other dogs. All this princess needs is loving home to help her come out of her shell.

Imani is a beautiful Papillon/Chihuahua mix who is four years old and weighs just 8 pounds. She was surrendered by her former owner, along with her brother Joey (shown below), when their owner moved to Atlanta and an apartment where pets were not accepted.
Imani is a sweet girl who deserves a loving forever home. She is a bit timid when meeting new people, but she soon warms up once she knows you are her friend. Imani will be a wonderful addition to most any home, but would probably do best in a home without small children.
Imani is in a foster home and not currently available for adoption.
Foster Update: Imani is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever fostered. Imani has an amazing personality, she has just the sweetest demeanor and loves to cuddle. Her two favorite things to do are to go on long walks and to get a nice scratch behind her ears. She gets along with everyone we meet and loves to play with our other chihuahua. She doesn't mind our cat really, and doesn't pay attention to our Australian Cattle Dog. Imani is housebroken but we are still working with her to teach her to go through the doggie-door. Imani is a very smart dog and understands what we want her to do and she is eager to please. Imani would be a good family dog, she just loves attetion. She is an amazing little dog and is everything you could wish for.

Joey is a cute Pekingese/Chihuahua mix who weighs 14 pounds. He was surrendered by his former owner, along with his sister Imani (shown above), when their owner moved to an apartment where pets were not accepted.
Joey, like his sister, is a little timid when meeting new people. He is a bit confused by his sudden move, but he is settling in quickly. He will make a wonderful canine companion.

Foster Report 1/29/10: Joey is a polite gentleman who generally is quiet but will vocalize when having his head rubbed to let you know he is enjoying being petted. He is a calm guy except he becomes a total wiggle-butt when I come home from work, when I get out the leash, and when I get out his sweater to put on him. He loves to curl up in the doughnut beds and he also likes sleeping under the covers. Once under, he will not move until its time to get up. He is housebroken and has done quite well getting along with my dogs and has not been overwhelmed being the smallest guy in the house. This guys is a winner so come meet him and give him a chance to show you how adorable he is.

Tux is a handsome two and a half year old Chihuahua, or close mix, who weighs 14 pounds. This little darling was surrendered by his former owner, along with his friend marie (shown above), when they had to move and Marie and Tux could not go along.
Tux is a little shy when meeting new people, but warms up once he knows you are his friend. The warming up process takes a little longer with men, than women. Overall, he is a sweet boy who promises to be a wonderful canine companion. Tux would do best in a home without small children and he would also prefer to be with another doggie companion.

Foster Update: Tux is a real sweetheart who’s definitely coming out of his shell. At first, he would come up to me to be petted but would back away when I put out my hand. Now, he’s not shying away at all. He loves the attention. He’s pretty mellow and is mostly quiet, but he will bark at noises outside. He’s doing much better with housetraining this week and I think it’s because he’s feeling a lot more comfortable.
However, he is definitely afraid of men. I had a male friend over and he wouldn’t even stay in the room. It may be something he adjusts to but it will likely take some work. He’s a sweet boy who will do well in a quieter environment – definitely no small children.

Abby is a three year old Miniature Pinscher who weighs 17 pounds, although she should weigh closer to 12 pounds to be at a healthier weight. Abby came to us from an outlying animal control facility where she was surrendered by her former owner. We cannot understand how someone could send a dog as sweet as Abby to animal control, but we are glad she is now safe and sound here at APR.
Abby is a friendly girl and needs a family who will give her the exercise and diet she needs to gain back her girlish figure. Abby is an all around happy and outgoing dog. She will make a wonderful lifetime companion.

Update 1/28/10: My foster mom takes me for lots of walks and I have already lost 2 pounds! You'll hardly recognize the new "me" when you come to see me on Saturday. I do get very excited when my foster mom gets her dogs and I prepared for our 30 minute walks. Even though I am a heavy girl I have no problem keeping up with her chihuahuas. Don't get me wrong, once we're done with our walk I am absolutely willing to lounge around until the next walk. I love to snuggle under the covers and bury my face. I also don't mind being around felines. If you want to join me in successfully accomplishing my resolution to lose weight we could be the perfect match.

Paige is a three month old Chihuahua, or close mix, who currently weighs 6 pounds. This little tyke should grow up to be around 12-15 pounds. Paige came to us from a rural animal control facility where her chances of being adopted were slim.
Like all puppies, Paige will need a home who can devote the time and patience needed to help her become a well-rounded and happy adult doggie. Paige will return the favor with lots of love and puppy kisses.
Paige is getting over a case of the sniffles and is currently not available for adoption.
Update 2/1/10: Paige had some mild hair loss on her head and has been diagnosed with Demodex Mange, a non-contagious and easily treated form of mange. Chopper is a 4 year old Chihuahua who weighs 6 pounds. This darling guy was left behind after his family's home was foreclosed on. A kind citizen took him in and after unsuccessful efforts in tracking the owners down he was brought to us.
