Just this side of heaven is a place called

the Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.......

Abbey (Boxer) & Jake (Dalmatian)

Abbey was adopted from a farm in North Carolina. She was the runt of the litter and was mischievous from the beginning. She managed to destroy most of the house in her first 3 months with us – what a handful! A typical Boxer, she was stubborn, loyal & very loving. Unfortunately, she developed cancer at only 8 years old and it took her quickly. Her spirit lives on in my heart – I still miss her.

Jake was rescued from an abusive owner also in North Carolina. He and his siblings had been beaten and Jake was very timid and had trouble with his bowels all his life. I don’t know what they did to him exactly, but it took years to fully gain his trust. Despite this beginning he was so loving & loyal and would do anything to make us happy. His “sister” Abbey gave him a hard time, but Jake never let it bother him…he was a true blessing. He was always my “boy”.

Angelina

Her name was Angelina and she came to us via our dear friend Adolfo who found her hungry and homeless three years ago. From the moment I held her in my arms we bonded. Although her time was short we celebrate her life beautifully lived. She will always be in our hearts. We should all to be so blessed to have an Angelina in our lives at one time or another. We miss her terribly.

Angus

It is with great sadness that we were forced to say goodbye to Angus. Poor Angus was suffering mentally, and he had no quality of life. It was advised that the most humane thing we could do for him was to relieve him of his suffering. This just reminds us that not only can physical maladies leave these poor creatures with no quality of life, but mental ailments can cause a dog to suffer just as much, if not more.

Angus passed peacefully with his devoted foster dad by his side. His foster dad has worked very hard to give Angus the best life he could have these past few months. He made sure that Angus always had a warm bed and never had to spend one night here at the shelter. It is comforting to know that Angus is no longer suffering and is running happily through the meadows over the Rainbow Bridge.

Babe

Babe was a darling seven year old Miniature Poodle.

Shortly after she came to us, Babe developed an issue with her left eye. She went to a specialist and was diagnosed with a detached lens in her left eye.  Babe was in pain, so the eye had to be removed to relieve her pain and discomfort.

Unfortunately, the surgery that was in her best interest was not successful and Babe passed away under anesthesia.

She will be greatly missed, most especially by her loving foster mom who devoted so much time and attention to her.

Bean

We are very sad to report that Bean has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Although we knew that she had a wealth of issues with her nasal passages and her breathing, what we did not know was that she also suffered from intestinal issues as well. Following Bean's most recent procedure, she stopped eating and spent this entire week in ICU. Bean was not able to recover from all of her ailments. We will all miss this beautiful dog. We are comforted only by the fact that she is no longer suffering.

We would like to thank Bean's

Bella

After a week of cage rest it was obvious that Bella was not getting any better, and was in fact rapidly deteriorating. We took her took her to see an orthopedic specialist who confirmed that she had an torn ACL and had also broken a vertebrae. This was devastating news for all of us. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done to correct this injury and upon the advice of the vet, we decided to have Bella humanely euthanized so she would no longer have to be in pain. We will all miss her dearly  but are comforted to know she is no longer hurting and can run free like all puppies should be able to do.

Belle

On Saturday, September 7, 2008 our sweet Miss Belle crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. We are all very shocked and saddened by her passing. It appears that her small little body was overcome with some unforeseen illness.

On Friday evening she appeared slightly weak; however, she had not shown any overt signs of illness. By Saturday morning she had passed quietly in her sleep.

Belle was such a dear kitten. We were all in love with her fabulous white whiskers and eyebrows and we will always remember her quirky, fun loving personality. All who knew her will certainly miss our little southern Belle.

Bird

The house is awfully silent without his deafening laughing call. “Bird” was a rescue, a mental cripple in a tiny cage who didn’t know how to fly. I didn’t want him but he became a friend. Living with him was a true experience and he taught me much about bird intellect. Living and flying entirely free in the house at all times he was endlessly inquisitive and ready to investigate/destroy. Bird showed me that old Rolex watches break if you throw them on the floor, emptying the pot of pennies is more fun than picking them up and waking up to the classic call of the Australian outback is the best – at 4 a.m. He made people laugh. He also taught 30 APR foster dogs that you don’t mess with a kookaburra! Bird’s death was accidental, at play with his best friend Aggie. Five days on and Aggie’s still looking for him and I’m only just realizing how unique he was. He was a lifetime experience.

Bonnie

Dear Sweet Bonnie crossed over the Rainbow bridge today. Her suffering was just too great to bear as she was no longer able to breath. Her lungs finally gave way to the severity of her condition. We are always saddened by the loss of a beloved pet; however, when human neglect is responsible for the illness, it seems that much harder.

Callie

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to little Callie.  A couple of weeks ago, the vets found a spot on her lung that they suspected might be cancerous.  Despite all of the care and precaution taken with her condition, the spot spread quickly and there was nothing else that could be done to save Callie's life.  It was a great pleasure to be able to spend what short amount of time we had with her.  She was a loving and wonderful pooch who was adored by everyone, especially her foster mom.  We feel better knowing that she is happily running free from sickness in the meadows over the Rainbow Bridge.

Chief (1992- 2009)

Chief was one of those “Best Dog in the World” kind of dogs. True, he had his fair share of youthful bad-boy experiences (like running off with a pack of coyotes). What made him so special was his ability to put people and other dogs at ease. Yes, even those coyotes decided he was OK. Dogs like Chief are the reason people love dogs. Thank you Chief for 16 years of loving companionship. We are glad you made it to all the way to Wales with us. Every minute with you was a gift.

Cricket

She was born to be a show dog on January 17, 1999 in Tennessee.  Her original owners were my neighbors.

Cricket jumped in my lap the first time I ever went into their house; she was starved for attention.  Our relationship started by my keeping her when the family went on vacations.  After their first child, they told me finances were tight and they could not afford Cricket.  I started caring for her with fancy haircuts and shots in February of 2005.  In August of 2005, my neighbors said that they were giving Cricket away.  I was their first choice.  So, I became her mama officially in August of 2005.

I never had a dog that let me clean her teeth, paint her toenails white to match mine and played with another dog.  Her best canine friend was a mix named Biscuit. Biscuit is lost without his little fancy girl.   I know my little wooly lamb will be waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. Our family misses her so much!  Our hearts are broken.

Dorren

It is with tremendous sadness that we must report that Dorren has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. After multiple surgeries and weeks of rest, Dorren's body was not able to accommodate the loss of her front leg. Her dislocated hip was not able to stay in the socket and there was nothing that could be done.

Dorren was a loving, one of a kind dog that touched the hearts of everyone she came in contact with. Her love of life and gentle spirit will live within each of us and we are happy to have had the opportunity to provide her with the love and attention she so deserved. We will miss her very much!

Drey

Drey and I spent the past 14 years and 7 months of our lives together. He was a wonderful companion and the best roommate I could ask for.  He enjoyed taking long walks through the neighborhood and barking at all of the bigger dogs. He also loved eating raw hide bones and stealing socks and leaving them in his hiding place under the bed. What I miss most about him is the greeting I would receive when I got home. His tail was always wagging a mile a minute and I knew he was smiling inside and out. I like to think he is in a happier place running around barking at all of the big dogs with an endless supply of rawhide bones and unmatched socks. He will be a part of my life forever!

Duncan

We took Duncan to Dr. Whittle at Paces Ferry Veterinary Hospital for an evaluation and to determine his prognosis for medical treatment to alleviate his pain and restore his mobility. Sadly, the news was not good. After reviewing Duncan's X-rays and and examining Duncan, Dr. Whittle concluded that Duncan had so many problems with his knees and hips that he would not regain use of his rear legs and live a normal life.

As you might expect, we had to make the sad, sad decision to put Duncan out of his misery and end his pain and suffering permanently. He was a sweet pooch who should have had a better life, but puppy mill dogs often do not have good genetic backgrounds, and Duncan is a prime example of how an adorable puppy at the pet store ends up.
