Just this side of heaven is a place called
the Rainbow Bridge.
|
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.......

Maggie
Maggie was such a wonderful member of our family, bringing laughter and smiles to us all, and especially to me, as we bonded more than I ever knew was possible between a human and a dog. Magsie-girl - thank you for five beautiful years of happiness, filled with puppy kisses, goofy antics, "brrfs", and cuddles. You knew that you were so very loved, and you returned that love to us in so many different ways. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our lives.

Max
On Sunday evening, Max crossed over the Rainbow bridge in the arms of his foster Mom. On Friday evening, he eagerly went to his foster home for some much needed R & R. We suspected that he may be coming down with kennel cough and wanted to take the necessary precautions. Unfortunately, something else was obviously troubling him and on Sunday afternoon Max took a terrible turn for the worse. We regret that we only knew him for such a very short time. Max was a sweet, fragile, little boy with a great big heart....he will be sadly missed!

McDuff
Five years ago this very special soul joined our family through Atlanta Pet Rescue. Although his stay was too short, his love for us and ours for him will last forever. From the moment he stepped through the door of our home, he stepped into our hearts. His main responsibility was to look after our then 89 year old mother, which he seemed to understand immediately; he loved his family and was ever vigilant of Mother. He was affectionate and loving, but never demanding of attention. We’re going to miss the little guy terribly.

Melinda
Melinda had been living outdoors for quite a while, and her coat showed the effects of poor care. We hoped that TLC and good food would be enough to bring poor Melinda back to good health, but she just didn't seem to be improving with time, so a trip to the vet was in order. Unfortunately, Melinda's blood work revealed she was in kidney failure and there was nothing that we could do for her except to humanely ease her suffering.

Minnie
We are sad to report that Minnie passed away yesterday during surgery. Late Tuesday evening the pin holding Minnie's leg together broke through the bone and was actually popping through her skin. We immediately rushed her to the veterinarian and they performed emergency surgery the next morning. They soon discovered that the pin had shattered the bone vertically and there were bone fragments all throughout her leg. They were deciding whether to amputate her leg or try and repair it, when her little heart, ravaged by the effects of heartworms, gave out. They tried to resuscitate her, but to no avail, and little Minnie passed away. We were sad to see her go, but at least now she is free of her broken body and at peace.

Mista was dearly loved in her short time with us. We lost her to a virus that could have been prevented by a responsible caregiver giving her the necessary vaccines she deserved. Our hearts go out to all of you who also fell in love with this gorgeous and unique soul. Misu
Misu had been doing well and recovering from her bite wounds. However, we noticed that she was not recovering from her spay surgery as quickly as we would have liked. We took her to Buckhead Animal Clinic for an evaluation, fluids and supportive care, however, inspite all of our efforts, Misu crossed over quietly to a world that knows no pain or suffering. We are all very glad to have had the opportunity to spend time with this very special kitty. She was very much loved and will be missed by all.

Mitra
It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to our sweet Mitra, who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge today. Although we don’t know for sure, we hope that Mitra passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was truly a special little girl, loved and cherished by those who knew her. She was friendly and loving, always perched on her stool in the middle of the cat room. She got along with the other cats and even the dogs that occasionally stopped in for a visit. Mitra, we take solace imagining you playing with the other cats and dogs at the Rainbow Bridge. You touched our hearts, and we will miss you dearly.

Chip left us all too soon at just 12 years old and we were blessed with our Molly for almost 18 years. Losing them only six months apart has been very hard and left a big hole in our hearts. We will always love and miss you both and you will be forever in our hearts.

Momo
To all of my human friends: Please do not weep for me! I am running stronger than ever now across the fields and through the woods.... running, running, running!!!! I am no longer limited by one eye and a failing heart. I can now continue to be an ambassador to all my other brothers and sisters who weren't as lucky as I was to have such a wonderful life and such wonderful friends. I will wrap them with your love and with your smiles and laughter and assure them that they, like I, are very loved, be it from afar!
Please do not weep for me! I am in your soul and you are in mine...forever!

Mulligan
“Please take me home – I promise I’ll be good” said the sign in the window of the shop where you were found at just 5 weeks old. And we did – but you lied, at least for the first 8 years. You were the most exhuberant, mischievous, comical, empathetic and smart dog we ever had. From winning the hot-dog bobbing contests, to watching your velvety-soft ears bounce on your daily walks, to visiting your friends at the Home Depot, to chewing the corners off pillows to pull the stuffing out, to your puppy-love of Shyla, you made us laugh every single day – what a wonderful gift you gave to us. We will try our best to look at every day as an adventure the way you did, but it will be so hard without you.

Pasha
We are very sad to report that Pasha has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Dr. Merritt at Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic offered to care for her over the weekend to ensure that she had round-the-clock care. Unfortunately, sweet Pasha was unable to completely heal after her surgery. She had been straining so hard to release her bowels that she perforated her colon. She fought hard but in the end her body could not endure the pain that followed. It helps to know that Pasha is now free from pain and is running through the meadows over the Rainbow Bridge.

Pugslie
It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to Pugslie. Poor Pugslie was sick when he first came to us from animal control. After much effort was put into saving his life, the vets finally had to make the tough decision that Pugslie would have no quality of life and was too sick to continue. Pugslie passed peacefully, and we are glad to know he is no longer in pain and is now running through the meadows beyond the Rainbow Bridge.

Pumpkin
My husband and I were driving when the car in front of us hit a dog and kept going. Noah and I, of course, stopped. She was this beautiful small orange mix and I instantly fell in love with her. We immediately carried her to Cherokee Animal Hospital. Unfortunately, her injuries were extremely extensive and the vet said chances are she wouldn't survive through surgery. Per the vet, the best decision for her was to end her suffering.
I was DEVASTATED!!! I had already planned in my mind to take her home and love her and give her a wonderful home. It's amazing how you can grow to love something in just a few short minutes. It felt as if I was having to let go of my baby that had been with me for so long. Noah and I took financial responsibility for her and held her as she left this world.
The hospital gave me a clay imprint of her paw with the name I had given her. Needless to say, I do not have a picture of her except for the one that is forever imprinted in my mind and heart. I have attached a photo of a stuffed animal that resembled Pumpkin's color and sweet face, as well as her clay paw print with her name. Thanks so much for your kind words and the wonderful things you and Atlanta Pet Rescue do.

Purrsilla
Purrsilla succumbed to having a severe uterine infection from being bred over and over again at the hands of a greedy owner/breeder who damaged her beyond repair for the sake of their own financial gain. In the short time in our care, she discovered toys, being clean, having great food, love and attention for the first time. We can only hope that we made her last days happy ones.

Sable
When I picked Sable up from APR on the April 24, 2004, I had concerns about this abused little girl that had been rescued from a puppy mill. She needed so much tender love and care, not to mention a weight loss plan and a good grooming. She had to endure several eye surgeries and dental surgeries. But she was a fighter!! Little Sable loved me unconditionally and I loved her the same. She brought me pure joy! Although she never learned to play ball or run around the yard due to her heart conditon and years of neglect, she loved a good belly rub, her daily green salad and an occasional munch on a few cheese crackers. On February 18th, due to her heart disease, Sable went to heaven. I miss her dearly.

Sally
Sally was a sweet girl, a pretty Rat Terrier who came to us in severe pain. Sally's diagnosis was a spinal injury that had never healed correctly, probably a break. There was nothing that the vet could do to correct Sally's spine. Sadly, the only thing that we could do was to hold her and to prevent any further suffering.
Sally will forever be in the hearts of the many volunteers and staff at Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption that loved her.

Sasha
We are very sad to announce that Sasha lost her battle to the many ailments that she has been trying to overcome for most of her life. Her weak body succombed to the side affects of the medications she was taking and she left us peacefully yesterday afternoon. Sasha's story was an inspiring one and she has definitely left a mark on everyone here at Atlanta Pet Rescue. She will be missed by all, and especially by her devoted foster mom. It helps to know that Sasha is now free from pain and is running through the meadows over the Rainbow Bridge.
Thank you to everyone who followed Sasha's story and kept her in your thoughts. Also, thanks to everyone who so lovingly sponsored Sasha during her stay with Atlanta Pet Rescue:

Scruffy
(? - February 5, 2001)
You loved every man, woman, child and animal you met. You were the sweetest dog ever. You adopted "your" kitten, Lillian, when she was 6 weeks old. On November 5, 2007, you were reunited with her. I still miss seeing your smile, hearing you "talk" to me, finding dog biscuits in Papa's shoes, the couch cushions, and under my pillow. I love you.

Sheba
Sheba was our slightly slow daughter. She was the only female in my life while raising a pack of male children and dogs. Her sweetness was tangible and her gentleness endearing. Sheba was the perfect child's pet and the perfect first dog for me. I loved her muchly.

Solomon, always the retriever, loved his toys! His ability to comfort a sick or sad person as a Happy Tails Pet Assisted Therapy dog was outstanding. I will always remember his intelligence and sensitivity. I will always value the unconditional love that flowed from such a beautiful heart.

Stewie
It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to little Stewie. Stewie had a visit with the vet today that revealed a long list of medical issues, including prostate cancer and heart problems. The vet said that little Stewie would not have any quality of life and the only thing that could be done would be to relieve him of his suffering.
We regret that we only knew Stewie for just a short time. He deserved so much more love throughout his life than he received. We hope that he knows we loved him dearly here at APR, along with all of his donors and supporters. It is good to know that Stewie is no longer in pain or fear and is running happily through the meadows over the Rainbow Bridge. He will be missed by all!
We would like to thank everyone who so lovingly sponsored Stewie during his brief stay with Atlanta Pet Rescue:

Tipper
Your life was hard, but you never let it stop you. We only knew you a short time, but we were blessed to have experienced your bright and indomitable spirit. You are finally released from the constraints of your broken and feeble body and can run free for the first time. Although we miss you greatly, we are comforted to know you are finally free of pain and not to worry, Marley still won't be allowed to sleep in your bed. We love you Tip Tip!

Trinket
Trinket was a beautiful, sweet Great Dane who came to us in severe trouble. Trinket's diagnosis was adenocarcinoma. This is a very aggressive form of cancer and there was nothing that we could do to cure poor Trinket. Sadly, the only thing that we could do was to hold her and to prevent any further suffering.
Trinket will forever be in the heart of her foster mom and many of us here at Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption.

Trouble
Trouble was the sweetest cat we are likely to ever have. She was barely three years old. She was taken from us by
atypical mycobactrium, aka
"the new
cat disease". She fought the good fight but could not beat it. We and her sister miss her and can't believe she's gone.
~ Marie and Randy B.
Note: If you think your cat may have atypical mycobactrium, Marie and Randy want to offer their knowledge on this new disease in hopes that another cat can be saved by it. Please feel free to contact them via email by clicking here.

Tyler
His journey with us started around September 1996. I will never forget that day as he fell in love with David and us with him. Tyler gave us 12-1/2 wonderful years of love, play, protection, and loyalty.
When Evan came along, Tyler immediately became his protector sleeping in Evan‘s room by the crib. When any of us needed comforting, Tyler would always be there – he was really wise that way. In his last month with us, he became very ill – but his loyalty would not let him give up. With a lot of pain and love, we decided to help him let go so his pain would end. Tyler, we love you.

Weezie
Our pretty kitty! Since we lost you, Mommy misses our conversations. Other people thought you were grumpy but I know you just had a lot to say. Daddy misses having you always on his lap; he says Sunday mornings when no one else is awake are when he misses you most. Your bratty little sister Annie doesn’t sleep on your pillow any more; without you here to be annoyed, it seems there are lots of other pillows to sleep on. We all miss you very much. Bye Baby Girl.

Wellington
Wellington died on a glorious Saturday morning. We at Atlanta Pet Rescue loved him dearly. Wellie was with us for two months following his rescue from a cruel breeder. During that time, he showed us his resilient spirit and gentle, sweet nature. Wellie had become the official greeter in the cat room and was always happy to see his friends. There is an empty place in the cat room and in our hearts.

Woody
Woodstock came into our hearts and home in July, 2003. Found wandering on Hwy. 92 with almost no fur, he willingly climbed into my car. Dr. Fran Nicholson of Hollyberry Animal Hospital in Roswell checked him out that day and gave him extra special care, right up to his last minutes-we will always be grateful to her. Estimated at 10 years old, it took some hard work to get his coat and overall health back. He went on to graduate from obedience school and become a Happy Tails Pet Assisted Therapy dog.
Finally, his hip bones deteriorated and arthritis made moving very painful and we had to let him cross over the Rainbow Bridge to join the rest of our beloved pets. We take comfort knowing he is now free from pain but will miss him always.

Zimmer
Zimmer came to us shy and scared. We were unaware, but Zimmer had been exposed to a virus and was already sick when we got him. The timing of his disease and being neutered was unfortunately too much for him to handle. The surgery had bottomed out his little immune system and he simply could not fight off the virus. He was only with us for two days, but he was loved.
