Make a Difference: VOLUNTEER!

Thank you for your interest in helping Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption.

Everyone has something unique to contribute, and we are very thankful to our hardworking volunteers that give many hours of their free time to help us maintain our shelter, socialize and train our pets, as well as help with fundraising and administrative tasks. There's something for everyone to do!

Please join our group of dedicated volunteers who are the heart of the organization. Because Atlanta Pet Rescue is a volunteer-based organization, we always welcome new volunteers to join us in our rescue efforts.

The precious gift of your time makes all the difference! There are numerous ways to volunteer with Atlanta Pet Rescue, some of which are listed below.

Ready to get started? All you have to do is complete the short Volunteer Application Form.

Want to find out more? If you would like to read more about all of the volunteer positions currently available at Atlanta Pet Rescue, click here for our Volunteer Opportunities.

Once we receive your completed application, we will respond to you via email as quickly as possible. Our volunteer orientation sessions are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. at our shelter.

1 - Become a foster parent

We need foster homes for our dogs and pups, cats and kittens. What this means is that you would take one or more pets to your home and nurture them (we provide everything you will need) until they are adopted. Some people choose to foster for a week; others for longer periods- it is completely up to you.

We welcome your help, even if it is for a short time.

Some of our wonderful dogs and pups are very shy and need TLC. As you no doubt know, we often rescue animals from abusive situations, and these animals need to have human affection to regain their confidence.

This is your chance to make a real difference in these animals' lives.

As a foster parent, is it hard to give them up when they are wanted by an acceptable adopting home? Sure. But it is also gives you a sense of pride knowing that you have helped a wonderful animal find a home. A little pain at parting; a lot of pleasure in knowing you have made a difference! And another life is saved!

What is involved? Mainly your time and your love. You would bring one or more of our pets into your home and nurture and enjoy itt while we look for its adoptive home. As a prospective foster parent, you will be required to complete an application and be interviewed in person. If you have pets, you will be required to provide medical records for your current pets as proof that they are up to date on vaccines, spayed or neutered and on heartworm preventative.

Atlanta Pet Rescue will provide an animal which has been vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and on flea and heartworm medication. We will provide all the food necessary for the animal's good health and administer the monthly heartworm flea and heartworm preventative. Your contribution would be to love the animal while it was in your keeping and to bring it for adoption on Saturday.

If you are interested, please click on this link: Volunteer Application Form and be sure to indicate on the application that you are interested in fostering. You will then be emailed the supplemental foster application.

2 – Volunteer at our adoption center

Our pets need care from 8am until 8pm seven days a week. We especially need help when we are open to the public for adoption: Tuesday-Friday from 11am to 4pm, and Saturday from12pm to 5pm. We are located at 720 14th Street NW, in Midtown Atlanta.

You may help at the shelter anytime by bathing and or grooming dogs and cats, offering your time to help keep the shelter clean, or by helping us organize records. We need people every day of the week and evenings, too. If this is something you are able to help us with, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and note that this is your area of interest.

4 - Transport

We need assistance with transporting our animals to vet clinics,  grooming, etc. If this is something you are able to help us with, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and note that Transportation is how you can help.

5 - Fundraising

Assist in a variety of fundraising efforts throughout the year. Examples include helping to find donors for auctions or yard sales, assisting with our annual letter campaign, and posting flyers around town. If this is something you are able to help us with, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and note that Fundraising is your area of interest.

6 - Special Events

Our volunteers are the key to success at various events throughout the year. Special events include our annual Paws for Cocktails party, our annual Wags To Riches sale, Barnes and Noble gift wrapping at Christmas and several other fun events during the year. Sign up to help for an hour or two. You will have fun and help homeless dogs and cats at the same time!  If this is something you are able to help us with, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and note that Special Event participation is your area of interest.

7 - Animal Professionals

We always need professional services from veterinarians, trainers and groomers to help our dogs become adoption-ready. If you are a pet professional and would be able to give some of your very busy day (or evening) to a worthy cause, you have found the right organization! If this is something you are able to help us with, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and note your area of expertise.

...................Other Ways to Help...................

1 – Donate an item from our wish list

Click here to view our wish list.

2– Sponsor a pet

Many of our rescued pets need expensive medial care, such as heartworm treatment or other extensive surgical treatment. Others don't seem to sell themselves well at adoptions - even the sweetest pets can go unnoticed by potential adopters, simply because they are shy or too "average" looking. Or maybe you have fallen in love with a dog or cat that you saw on our picture pages or at an adoption, but you are unable to bring an animal into your home right now.

The Sponsor-A-Pet program allows you to donate money to help  a specific dog or cat at Atlanta Pet Rescue & Adoption.

Go to the Sponsor-A-Pet page to learn more about how you can help. From there, you will be able to make a quick and secure online donation to sponsor the pet of your choice.

3 - Vendor Contacts

We use lots and lots of cleaning products like household bleach, laundry detergent, and paper towels. If you have any contacts with vendors of these items and can help us get them free or at a discount, please let us know. If this is something you are able to help us with, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and let us know how you can help.
