I adopted Duffy (previously Baron) in July 2010. I had browsed the APR site a few days prior and was set on adopting a different dog the day I visited APR. It turned out that the dog I had in mind was being adopted by another person when I arrived. I went through the application/interview process that day but didn’t feel a connection with any of the dogs there so I left without a dog. A few days later, I browsed the APR site again and when I saw a picture of Duffy and read his story — I knew he was the one. I took the next day off work and drove to APR right when it opened to make sure no one else adopts Duffy before me.
When the APR staff brought Duffy to the meeting area to meet me, my heart melted. Baron slowly approached me and when he got to my feet, he rolled over and invited me to give him a belly rub. I knew at that moment he was the perfect dog for me.
In the first couple of weeks, Duffy slept and slept and slept. This was probably due to the medication he was on when he got neutered. Once he got through that phase, he gradually became playful and energetic but not overly so. He gets compliments everywhere he goes because he is always so well behaved. He is so affectionate, gentle, and loveable. My mom, who was afraid of dogs, has more than warmed up to him. So much so that she would call just to check on how he is doing and even refers to him as her grandson.
In a short year, he has become an important part of my life. I can’t imagine my life without Duffy and can’t thank APR enough for bringing him into my life!
